  • Someone who was actually alive in 2007 here. Live streaming was definitely a thing in 2007. In fact, that was around the time it stared getting big with the launch of Justin.tv (later Twitch.tv and acquired by Amazon). You forget that the internet at the time wasn't as centralised as today. So many creators simply had their own website where they could post videos and stream.

    PayPal was more popular than it is today among other options at the time (like you know, using your card and making regular ass bank payments). Buying merch to support your favourite creators was common.

    The word "influncer" did exist and there were tons of them on the "blogosphere" in the 00's. Today largely replaced by Instagram.

  • The two topics dominating the news at the time in my country was: speculations about a possible Russian submarine stuck in our archipelago, and the sudden increase of beggars with handwritten signs after Romania and Bulgaria's accession into the EU.

    So naturally I went clubbing dressed like a Russian sailor, with a handwritten sign begging for money for plutonium "for make submarine back to motherland". Complete with snorkling tube/mask and paper cup with some change to rattle at people. I left the club with more money than I came with, even after paying for all my drinks (redbull vodka all night of course).

    I still like to do topical costumes or friend group in-jokes now that the parties are smaller and private. Too old for clubs nowadays.

  • Capitalism is about ownership more than anything else. Capitalism states that the means of production is private property and to be used for the purpose of obtaining profit. As long as there is profit, supply and demand can go fuck itself along with the workers (those who produce). It really is a stupid system that can never be fully implemented (every economy is a mixed economy for a reason) since it naturally creates perverse incentive.

  • I think they've been on the ball with spelling reforms as the language has evolved. The last one as recently as in 1996. English has no central authority for spelling, making such reforms much harder to implement. Conservatives are of course, like always, a problem. Being against any and all spelling reform. The main argument seem to be that it makes it harder for people to read really old texts in their original form. Which for some reason makes spelling and speach drifting apart worth it. I known Swedish conservative pseudo-intellectuals often praise the English for it's lack of reform.

  • The German language is ironically one of the weirder Germanic languages. When I say North Germanic languages I mostly mean what is now known as Scandinavian languages (and sometimes Dutch depending on who you ask).

  • Conservatives hate daylight savings time though because they can never figure out how to change their clocks twice a year (they often claim it's complicated). Nah. I think it's fun because it makes you think about time, and can be a fun learning event each year for a kid.

  • She's also part of the same cult as Shinzo Abe was. They like to empty their lower tier members bank accounts and also "adopt" their children around as they see fit. They are a very litigious cult that sues anyone talking about what is going on inside it, or dares criticise it. Japan initially tried to limit the cults influence but now they, like South Korea, seems thoroughly captured by it.
