  • Like those hunters in the USA that go out in the wild and get attacked by grizzly bears and almost nobody with any sense has sympathy for them because at the end of the day the hunters put themselves into the bear's habitat and then weren't savvy, educated, vigilant, or concerned enough to stay the fuck away from the apex predators with knives built into their mouths and feet.

  • Tuna P. Beantoehausenerlenmeyer-Graham, a Main Coon cat said to be the most ronperlmanesque Main Coon cat thus far discovered.

  • Like my ole grandpappy used to say "If I cedar, I breed her."

  • Duh. If they let you see how it's done, then you'll know how to do it yourself. And once you know how to do it yourself, you won't need to buy one of their expensive machines every time you want to wash dishes.

  • Also, things like this can result from not providing a supportive environment where queer persons and their allies feel comfortable enough to unmask and freely discuss why "bussy" probably isn't the best terminology to use in external communications.

  • Channing Tatum and Jason Statham sitting in a tree. K. I. S. S. I. N. G. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes this dude in their baby carriage.

  • I get it's a meme, but I'd be hard pressed to find one thing that's not annoying about shopping in these places.

  • Right hand to baby Jesus, I thought Kmart was basically no longer in operation, when did it become a programming language for nerds?

  • I know expensive, shitty healthcare in the USA is a stereotype, but in my experience it's also largely true. Maybe it's because I'm not wealthy or connected enough to have access to the good stuff, though?

The bills for my latest medical emergency are rolling in now.

The $1,000 USD ambulance bill is almost a relief, since I've heard others say their ride cost several times more than that. I declined pretty much all medical care in the ambulance and all offers for medication/treatment, though, so maybe that's part of it. Had I lost consciousness, I likely wouldn't have been able to say no.

The $2,000 USD emergency room bill? That's just the part that I have to pay out of pocket. The actual price they charged my insurance is $6,000+ for my slightly more than 90 minutes on a stretcher in the hallway. And it doesn't seem to have covered anything specific because the imaging (which I didn't even need), treatment, medications (which I would have refused if I knew how much they charged but they don't know that and can't tell you ahead of time), individual nurses, etc are all billed as separate line items. I was even charged thousands of dollars by a doctor I never even saw in person. I joked in another thread recently about $45 tylenol, but that's actually true. I'm paying $45 for 800mg of tylenol.

Months later, the billing part isn't even finalized. New claims/bills showed up literally 2 days ago, well after I thought I was done paying. Thousands of dollars out of pocket, on top of paying a thousand dollars a month for insurance.

At least the medical professionals that treated me were great.

  • This is how I found out that 800mg of ibuprofen / Tylenol costs $45 if you get it in a hospital in the USA.

  • There's always some degree of background static, hissing, humming, etc, no matter what channels I tried tuning them to. I don't expect perfectly clear audio while using an adapter, but those tuner types were always unacceptably bad for that any time I've tried them.

  • Worst that's happened to me is that I was detained and questioned by the cops while they investigated my "grow operation". I had some old school grow lights in my kitchen window for my window sill plants and a potted hibiscus outside on my deck.

It's sad that the cops couldn't immediately tell the difference between hibiscus and weed nor were they aware that people can grow indoor house plants under those pink/purple fluorescent lights which for sure wouldn't be strong enough to grow marijuana to begin with.

It's also funny that my neighbor at the time actually was growing weed on his front patio, and they never seemed to notice in the 5 or so years I lived next door.

  • Duh, it's a cloud, you inhale it.

  • The bluetooth to FM transmitter works well for you? I've tried them several times over the decades, even the expensive ones seem to suck. Maybe not as much as your bluetooth to cassette, I've never seen one of those for sale or used one.

  • In my early school years, we only had round tipped plastic safety scissors that could barely cut tissue paper. As a kid, I was terrified at the degree of responsibility and potential to take another kid's life those scissors represented.

The adults in charge when I was a kid had us convinced that if we ran with scissors in our hands we were going to kill the other children in the vicinity by accident in the most horrifically bloody and violent manner. They even showed us video re-enactments of children getting stabbed in the heart, neck, and eye complete with fake blood gushing out and Bugs Bunny worthy death performances.

A lot of us thought this was some super common way that kids were dying by the millions all across the world.

  • For real though?

  • I've had all 3 issues since I was a teenager. From my perspective, doctors in the USA don't give a shit about any of them.

Back pain? You need to exercise more and lose weight. Great advice, of course, but ignoring the fact that it was an issue even when i was at my skinniest and most active.

Constant anxiety? You need to do breathing exercises. Oh, that didn't work for you? That's not possible, you're doing them wrong.

Sleep problems? You need to exercise and lose weight. Great advice, of course, but it ignores the fact that my sleep issues were a problem even when I was at my skinniest and most active.

  • This reminds me of a site I used to visit every once in awhile back in the day. It was known for 2 things and 2 things only. Loved it.

  • I really pissed off a bunch of my family when I was a kid with this general concept.

"Illegal Mexicans" are taking all the jobs was a common sentiment with some of my adult family members and their friends. Being young, precocious, and naive, I remember asking why they are mad at the people "taking" their jobs, but not the owners who were hiring illegal immigrants. It didn't go over very well.
