  • Maybe but everywhere, but it is certainly more common. Perhaps not best for a fire, but I recall the example of a domestic abuse situation where they were effectively trapped with no way to talk without raising suspicion.

  • Very much this, there was some hubbub a while back where policies got passed the prevented people in education from effectively hiding things from parents such as if a child was trans and hadn't told their parents. It put them in the situation of being an asshole or risking their jobs and careers. They too might be a victim in an oppressive system.

    You may also be able to find a handbook posted somewhere that outlines their policies and procedures. If you can find that, you may find your answers without even asking.

  • A store you can quickly get in and out of with a variety of everyday items at a reasonable price that seems to pay its employees well. What's not too love?

    Also, several in my area have implemented self checkouts that don't bitch you out for every single item. I can scan everything from my cart and bag it up later at a counter or my car if the weather's nice.

    Every job I've worked at has had mountains of "The last guy didn't..." that you walk into and it's always a huge pain in the ass. They didn't throw out useless things, they didn't bother consolidating storage rooms, and they never wrote down any of their processes, procedures, or rationals. I've spent many hours at each job just detangling messes because the other person was to busy or thought it unimportant and didn't bother to spend the time.

    Make it a priority, allocate the time, and think long-term.

  • The term for the material removed to make a cut is kerf. You hear about it a lot with woodworking as not taking into account can lead to inaccuracies in the final dimensions of your materials.

    I would think separating a material by passing another through it is cutting while separating materials with only force would be breaking if it happens along a length or tearing of it happens gradually from a single point.
