  • Here in Hawai'i it is likely that we will give a sheepish shaka as the driver passes. Might get a tense shaka in response. I am in no way kidding about this.

  • I've long wanted to see Star Trek branch out into different TV genres (and am glad to see them, more or less, doing so these days). But I would LOVE a House-like medical show involving Starfleet Medical, or a police procedural involving like Starfleet Intelligence. That way you can still get ethical dilemmas and alien-of-the-week stories, but approach them from a different perspective.

  • Thank you! I switched to Linux last year after a few years of flirting with the idea. My main work computer is a 2011 iMac and I got really tired of not being able to run some things and the whole planned obsolescence aspect despite the hardware being perfectly serviceable. So, I went and, I kid you not, borrowed Linux For Dummies from the local library. Prior to this I had no idea what a shell was or even a “distro”. And, honestly, the For Dummies book over complicated Linux a bit. It front-loaded everything and made it way more intimidating than it needed to be (and I’ve been using computers since DOS days and built a PC back in 2000). Which I feel like a lot of Linux guys do as well.

Realized that Linux was lots of things and felt a pull toward Ubuntu, I installed it on the iMac and was instantly in love. After a few months, though, Canonical started pulling some nonsense and making changes to my system with updates like they were Apple. So I hopped over to Mint as I kept reading about how great it was and how “it just works” (a sentiment that brought me to Apple back in 2005). Now I stick Mint on everything. I kind of want to distro hop for the fun of it, but I’ve tested a few on distrosea and haven’t really found anything that draws me away from Mint. Yeah, I’m a bit of a normie. But normies deserve better OSes too!

  • [Robot voice] I love that jacket…

  • More like Turning the Channel Point USA, amirite?

    I'm here all week, folks!

  • On a clear day I like to drive the coastal road on my way home and catch a glimpse of Moloka’i on the horizon. On an especially clear day I can see Lāna’i. On those days I’m reminded that Larry Ellison owns that entire island and I get angry.

  • Interesting how "Greatest President for Christians in all of times" doesn't have too many "Christian" countries on his board of peace...

  • And this is how I learned that Usha Vance is pregnant

  • And ubiquitous site to site transporting

  • Almost choked on coffee from this

  • WOW!

  • This makes me think of the band Everclear. Every song of theirs is exactly the same. Dun dun dun dun dun da du-un Yeah! dun dun dun dun dun da du-un Oh yeah! Insert lyrics about gardens or daddy issues. However, speed that same song up and call it "Amphetamine" and it kinda slaps.

  • Coldplay is a band where I can recognize that there is talent, but I just cannot like them. The songs "Clocks," "Yellow," and "Viva la Vida" are good. Outside of those, I just don't like them.

  • The cast. That’s what I love about the show. The writing can be uneven and often downright contradictory (they ignore the whole “we have limited photon torpedoes” thing from the pilot pretty much immediately and have fun counting the number of shuttle craft they wind up destroying over the course of the series). But the cast is great, especially after a season or so when everyone has figured out their characters a bit.

  • I legit had to look up whether or not it was the same actor. This is one of those things that, in the pre-internet days, you could say and people would just have to believe you. Like that legend that Marilyn Manson was Paul from The Wonder Years.

  • Why Zordon look like Buzz McAllister in this photo tho?

  • And therein lies the problem: Diffusion and Large Language models (and their, heh, clanker ilk) cannot originate anything. All they can do is remix what’s already there. It’s ultimately stagnation in creativity (which, to be fair, is what we’ve largely been seeing in capitalist-owned media the last couple decades or so, with the proclivity toward remakes/reboots, etc.)

  • Weird, I was just thinking of this scene yesterday, then again with this post

  • Upvoting because both weeb and still oddly fond of the Chrysler PT Cruiser.
