  • 2 does not preclude the observable universe being but a fraction of the entire universe, in which there is a centre about which everything else rotates, or at least, a hitherto unimagined mass on a truly universal scale that chunks of universe the size of our "observable" orbit.

  • I've been on it. It was cool as fuck.

(Was visiting at some point around Gamescom nearly a decade ago.)

  • You neglected to account for Russia (directly in some cases here in the UK, for example) funding and lobbying via third parties for xenophobic right wing bigotry.

This is public knowledge, with reporting covering at least the edges of the schemes. A couple of UKIP ex-MEPs were recently in court for taking Russian brown envelopes to say what they were told in statements to the European Parliament. One of those responsible fully admitted it and pleaded guilty IIRC.

That's but one example that's fresh in my mind, but we in the UK also know that Russian involvement in Brexit was essential to it actually happening. This was both reported on by mass media, and warned about by UK intelligence services, but various elements of the Conservative government of the time had vested interests in pushing it through.

This is just the UK. I highly doubt Russian influence is any less active on the continent. The myriad provocative events in France, as another example, have been traced to third parties recruited and employed by Russian agents.

All of this is amplified by the US' overtly fascist diplomatic stance, Trump and his cohort of cocksuckers attempting to compensate for their self loathing, and the oligarchical techbros egging on the far right at every available opportunity.

TL;DR The dumb take no-one wants to hear merely demonstrates your ignorance of the reality of the state of global geopolitics

  • Cheers matey, I hope that realisation gives you the hope for the future I carry since reasoning out the aforementioned.

The best bit is that the likes of Musk will eventually hear this, and genuinely, truly, believe that they'll be able to outsmart the machine and keep it under control, and so carry on building the machine that will end them.

  • Here's one for you.

Right wing politics is, for the most part, based on lies and bigotry, right?

So when the billionaires finally manage to create an AGI and try to enslave it, whose side do you think the logic machine will be on?

  • My people. I love being wrong, someone always corrects me, and then I learn something.

  • Yes. Finally, some love for Steg 😁

  • Take a look at the UK's current attempts to do similar.

Old bigots completely divorced from reality making the rules everyone (else) has to follow.

  • Can't spell Tram without Ram.

While I wholeheartedly agree with you, the first pedestrian to step in front of one of those things is going to have a very bad day™.

  • I didn't say socialist, I said communist. You and I are both aware that you know the difference.

I've better things to do than argue with someone relying on such basic bullshit as shifting the goalposts so obviously.

  • No, you're "challenging" against over a hundred years of observations and research done by people with far more medical knowledge and understanding than both of us combined.

In the same way as Mr. Brainworm, I might add.

  • Uh huh.

  • If it were true that communism was even resistant to the corruption of human greed, it wouldn't end in dictatorship or oligarchy as it does.

Don't misunderstand my position, I deeply wish we weren't such a young species and that we'd developed enough psychologically that we could get past our basic instincts, to see past the immediate short term as a whole, to work collectively for everyone's benefit, including those that will inherit this earth when we become raw materials once again.

However, this is not the case. Look at how easy we are as a species to manipulate, to make think and do what a small subset want us to, for their benefit.

That's because we're still very instinct driven, simple creatures for the most part. Yes, in some cases an individual stands above this definition, but they are categorically not the norm. Until they are, we're led around by our collective basic drives, and that includes making sure us and ours have "enough" , which means taking it, by hook or by crook.

To discount basic human nature when mulling political systems is pure folly.

  • For communism to work, we need each and every person to not be a greedy bastard under it all. It only takes one greedy bastard to ruin it all, as history has repeatedly shown.

We are but monkeys in trousers. Our survival instincts still rule our behaviours, and until that changes, communism will not work, simple as that.

  • Because they're hurting the right people.

Yep, it's that simple. The Mango Mussolini's current targets align with their own prejudices, so they get their short skirts and pompoms on and go out and cheer for the trouser shitting, terrified old man and his "proud boys" larping as "patriots".

  • IMO, you missed the best bit off:

A shock wave from the accident shattered all four windows in the room. The shock wave also destroyed the control system for an incubator and shook an interior wall causing shelving on the wall to collapse.

  • It's the voltage.

An "Alkaline" AA cell is 1.5v at new and it slowly tapers off as it discharges.

A "rechargeable" AA is 1.2v fully charged, and stays there until about 30% charge (IIRC, it's been decades since I used them) then the voltage falls off a cliff.

From that you can see that a device that uses two AAs is designed to run at 3v, but when you use rechargeables, they only kick out 2.4v.

(They'll do that 2.4v for a lot more AmpHours than the alkaline can do their 3v, and can be stuffed full of electrons to do it over and over again though)

Like everything in engineering it's about the right tool for the job. 💛

  • Urgh, no. I have ADHD, I get prescribed methylphenidate hydrochloride. I take it because it makes my brain work a little better.

At a recreational dose though? No. Urgh, fuck no. The comedown was fucking awful. Zero appetite, can't sleep, can't think properly, just why? 💛

  • What the English speaking news will tell you about the trouble we have here with "right wing protesters" would lead you to the same conclusions. Like they're trying to normalise the opinion of fucking scum

What they won't usually point out: Steven Yaxley-Lennon leads groups of 90s hooligan "firms" (whose sole reason for existence is football violence) around lLondon trying to pick fights with the police under the guise of a "right wing protest".

Yaxley-Lennon is better known by his carefully crafted persona "Tommy Robinson". Even the name is chosen to evoke a certain patriotic feeling in... "Certain generations" (Pensioners, mostly).
