  • To be the devil's advocate here. Rental payments vs mortgage payments is not an accurate comparison of the true financial burdens.

With many rentals some if not all utilities are included in the price of rent, whereas homeowners must pay the full cost of utilities. There is also the additional cost of home insurance and property taxes. Most rentals have the majority of their maintaince covered whereas the homeowner is responsible for lawn cutting, gutter cleanings etc. The cost of repairs and maintaince is not negligible. While renting if the heat quits or an appliance breaks, the landlord is supposed to cover the cost but owning means you must take that full cost.

In the posted example, having double the mortage payment in rent payment is probably adequate to cover the additonal costs but the comparison of renting vs owning is not black and white. Several financial managers have even studied that depending on your needs and income, you can actually be getting ahead financially by renting if you don't actually need the full benefits of owning and are able to maintain a store of wealth through other investments. This is especially true if you are in a rent controlled unit.

  • Maybe closer to coffee shops than bars. The use case of energy drinks is a bit different than that of alcohol. Sometimes I'll need a little boost while driving during a long or late shift, i like the the taste of coffee so I'll usually get a coffee. Some people don't like coffee or it isn't always available so energy drinks work as well. The overconsumption of energy drinks is their main issue.

  • Regardless if we ban them, we should be taxing them at a rate that helps cover healthcare costs related to heart health.

  • If it was city water and they maintained adequate residual chlorine levels, 5 minutes should be enough to santize any germs or pathogens from the pee.

  • For rural houses, many garden hoses bypass their treatment systems to save on filter capcity, so its possible hose water in that situation is unsafe due to bacteria or water borne illnesses.

  • So we just send the police to go deal with the military hardware that civilians have access to with nothing? We need more accountability for when and how they use their tools and weapons rather than just taking them away.

  • Any tool can be misused. I'd be curious what the percentage of wrong use cases of MRAPs is. There is a massive accountability issue with America's policing. We need to address the accountability issues, not just take all their tools away.

When a tradesman fucks up a job do you blame the tools they used or the company they work for?

  • Just don't be LGBT+, don't be not white, don't be a woman, and follow christ and Donnie the diddler won't take your guns. Anyone else, maybe start trying to hide them before they come for yours.

  • Civilians in america can also buy several fully automatic and semiautomatic weapons in a large caliber. I usually see police using MRAPs as deployable cover during barricaded suspect situations. Most of the time they don't just show up and drive it through the building guns blazing, they use it as cover while giving commands, often holding down the area until the barricaded suspect gives up or a SWAT team can enter and try to arrest. Typically they attempt to use non lethal methods like flashbangs and bean bags unless the suspect becomes lethally violent like charging at officers with a knife or a rifle.
