People say nope to proton and signal in here without offering a better alternative. I'm open to shitting on them (proton CEO really pissed me off by praising the trump admin), but just saying nope to them without functional alternatives isn't helpful.
DivestOS used to be the bomb. Super secure. Monthly updates. Super private. Ran on tons of hardware. But it was run by 1 guy and he recently dropped the project. Which is fair, it was a lot of free labor and donations weren't paying the bills, but so sad :(
I dunno. I moved to Europe and there's smartphones and social media here. But my colleagues kids are at birthday parties and hanging out with friends and going to events every weekend. This seems like a real US thing.
I grew up in rural america in a tourist town. We hated the tourists. Wealthy. Arrogant. Rude. Unaware of local customs. Drove up rent and grocery prices.
But, at the end of the day, we were the only town within an hour radius that wasn't crumbling. All those vacation homes paid property taxes and the school system was great. There were jobs for people.
There are a lot of issues with unregulated tourism and immigration. But it's better to regulate the issues and keep up with fostering good job markets and building government controlled affordable housing instead of try and ban a chunk of your economy. Which, from this limited article, it seems like the government is trying to do.
Big warning on moving to Brazil for science. Getting lab materials takes forever to get delivered and frequently just never arrives. I had a roommat do her last year of PhD research in the us because work was so much faster here due to how much better and more reliable logistics are.
Pretty much this. Met him once. He's has no scandals, he's just kind of a rude guy.
I had a friend tell a story once about how he was on a field trip and the class found out Bill Nye was in the building. But once Bill found out kids were on the way he escaped out a window to avoid them. I'm not sure how true that is, but its kinda funny.
Like everyone else said, pixels are the best phones for non stock OS. You can unlock them easy and they are quick to release security updates so the open source security nerds who made graphene OS (the best open source OS) love pixel phones.
The problem with newer Samsung (post 2021 is update) is they don't allow you to unlock the bootloader (at least for US phones). This pretty much squashes your ability to put a new OS on it.
It very well could be true. But I also don't really think you've been able to watch your cat every moment of his outdoor life to know he literally never goes anywhere and has never killed anything. My cats are indoor only in a tiny apartment and I frequently can't figure out where they are, even when I worked from home.
Cats don't always show you what they kill. I had a roommate that kept letting my cats out. Never saw them kill anything. Then my neighbor told me about how they were little murder machines while I was out at work. Tried taking out a whole near of baby birds.
I didnt say genetically compatible. Domesticated cats are nearly genetically indistinguishable from African wild cats. Genetic studies are difficult because cat species are so similar. In fact, several cat species including the house cats have been argued by geneticists to actually be subspecies of the same species.
This is truly not the same for dogs or any other domesticated species... Except maybe the pidgeon. I could see a similar argument for some pidgeons. Not the tumblers.
