  • Self-hosted home alarm system?

  • I use the frigate plugin in home assistant to make my lights do certain things when persons are detected where they shouldn't be. Once you've got frigate connected to home assistant, your possibilities are endless. With a few zigbee smart switches, you could start pulling off home alone style antics if you really wanted. Think: sprinklers, lights, noises, projectors, video, etc.... just dont forget to keep the legal aspect in mind.

    I also have home assistant play a sort of alarm on my denon home theater stereo if a person is detected in frigate. It gets very loud.

    I haven't heard of alarmo. It sounds like it fits my use case perfectly. Checking it out.

    I suppose I can still understand it at this stage: most conflict is still abroad, only 9 months in to the presidency, and the Epstein revelations are still fresh, but how long will you push this?

    Will you still be shouting about Epstein once the first protestor is killed by ICE? What about after the first civilian doors are busted down? What about after trans people are definitively criminalized? What about after the first train is loaded up? What about after the first mass grave is discovered? What about after a few tens of thousands of Americans have been exterminated?

    I'm not saying everything above is going to happen, but supposing they did, would you still be shouting Epstein? Because at this point, it appears as if you, along with the rest of the Epstein crowd, will be shouting about it regardless of however far we are into the fascist descent. I dont understand that.

  • It makes light of the fact that America has been carrying out and bolstering fascism abroad for decades. In other words, covert fascism. For some reason, liberals have only started to renounce American fascism now that it was turned inward. In short, they were fine with covert fascism, but overt domestic fascism is unacceptable.

    Leftists have held since day one that the American poltical experiment was built on slavery and genocide, and that fascism was the only logical conclusion. We are being vindicated.

    You cant downplay hammer skills, though. There is almost no skill ceiling with hammers. Put any blacksmith up against an amateur, and you'll quickly see the difference between 30 seconds of training and 30 years.

    It is this supremely liberal idea that you can wriggle yourself out of fascism if you find the right facts and logic, the most epic slam, the most cutting late night TV monologue, to show a right winger and have them renounce fascism. It's based in the incorrect idea that the wheel of history turns via ideas. The idea that the marketplace of ideas, in combination with certain "Great Men", are the ultimate arbiters of history.

    Fascism doesn't work like that. You could drop 4k footage of Trump committing the acts, and nothing would change. If you want to halt fascism, you've either got to squash it with guns and tanks, or you give people healthcare, education, retirement, and socialization.

    The fact of the matter is that Japan has not handled the outcome of WWII well at all. Namely the Nanjing Massacre.
