  • Yeah I believe they still are - will add that as a disclaimer

  • The website might be more helpful to you, but it still doesn't go into that level of granularity. This is meant more for those who aren't too technical and want help getting started on this journey.

  • My bad! Must have deleted it by mistake. Thanks for flagging.

  • Late Stage Capitalism @lemmy.world

I created a guide to help people fight big tech, the biggest proponents of late-stage capitalism, to switch & find more ethical and smaller businesses

  • Scidb

Love all the recommendations - thanks for sharing those. When adding more sections, I'll look into some of these.

  • CopyParty

Hadn't come across them. Thanks for the suggestion - will look at adding them.

  • Is the idea behind OuterTune to have a media player for your own downloaded music?

  • For MetaGer, there isn’t a free tier as far as I understand or can see. You need to pay for credits but key creation is gratis.

True... thanks for the correction - will fix that.

  • Thanks for the feedback! The website goes into this level of detail and includes some of those suggestions you had: https://purchasewithpurpose.io/

Hard to include all of this in the graphic alone, but will consider how it can be improved.

  • No, but involved different communities when creating it and some people made the move only to be told about Brave's CEO history, then regretted it. Added the note so people can be informed one way or the other. Also, the thread linked gives an excellent opportunity for someone to get both sides of some of their controversies that have been shared with Brendan directly addressing each one in the comments.

  • Thanks! Will take all this feedback on board. Can see how some of the wording is confusing. I am looking at slowly introducing more information on each tool (screenshots included). For now, I try to link people as to where they can get this e.g. privacyguides

I also didn't know about the privacytools situation. Will absolutely look more into that.

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

I created a guide/website that helps beginners discover and switch to privacy-focused tools

  • PurchaseWithPurpose @lemmy.world

PurchaseWithPurpose website is live - with a new category!

    purchasewithpurpose.io
  • Tidal

It is hard for me to be the arbiter of what tools are ethical enough, so I try to make these facts as easy as possible to find for people. In the end, it educates and ultimately most decide against using such tools (for example, Spotify). There is a note on Tidal's profile about Jack Dorsey's and Jay-Z's involvement. https://purchasewithpurpose.io/software/34R8h9DOVPhaJ7CZMmKW48/

  • Oracle definitely fits under the tech giants to boycott.... and also fuck Larry Ellison. Will keep this in mind for future tools, but feel free to post this on https://lemmy.world/c/PurchaseWithPurpose in the meantime.

  • Privacyguides is an excellent resource, and in fact, it is often linked on the website. You might be interested in https://privacy.purchasewithpurpose.io/, which prioritises tools validated by them.

However, it isn't meant to serve the same audience. PurchaseWithPurpose is there to make moving more digestible for the average user, while educating them on more advanced topics.
