  • I once worked with that one person. You know the one, heavy enjoyer of cannabis even on the job. He was THE person. No, let me put it into perspective.

    The guy would down a full bottle of cannalean 1k nano THC before work and would come in with a massive 500mg candy in his mouth. This kid would impress old Tommy Chong.

    The first thing he'd ever tell you is that he ate human flesh. Apparently, him and a buddy were cooking something and his buddy cut the tip of his finger off on the cutting board. He said that they both stared at it for a long time before my coworker asked, "Can I eat that?" If its true, these guys had to have been blasted.

    Shame he was fired for sleeping on the job.

  • This. I rocked a 3 for 3 years. My inner screen peeled year one. Being a dummy, I thought it would be fine. The inner crease started to peel just a tiny bit after year 2. It was small and still worked great. I got full trade in value for it and my Fold 6 has 0 problems.

    Unless you get a factory defect, folding phones are amazing if you're gentle with opening and closing them

  • I was just trying to get this working as well. I connected to my TV using KDE and audio came through, but I didn't find any sort of screen mirroring. I'm not sure how up to date the info is, but I did read that KDE Connect comes with Miracast built in, so if you have access to that it should be an option.

    Unfortunately, my TV is an old 2018 Samsung 4k, so I have no access to Miracast to check, so I didn't dive far enough into it to know for sure. My solution is probably just going to be setting up a Raspberry Pi media build to the TV.

  • I use Fennec for my phone, but I'm rediscovering Floorp on desktop right now and I'm seriously impressed. Smoothest Fox Fork I've used in a long time.

  • I get you. I really do. It hurts a lot that Star Wars has become what it is today and the joke started at Phantom Menace.

    I suppose what I'm getting at is that Star Wars is a cluster fuck no matter which way you slice it but at least EU occasionally made it a fun cluster fuck.

    I'm not saying that Disney should have followed every canon that that walking fop of chest hair Lucas let through. They should have just left it alone and never mentioned it. Don't think I'm a Lucas fan. I hate him. Countless authors just dropped trow and shit on his desk and he made it canon.

    I mean, Lucas told RA Salvatore, one of my favorite authors, that he had to kill off Chewbacca after he took the contract. So Salvatore, insulted, killed Chewie in the most heroic but ridiculous way he could think of and ran him over with a goddamn moon. From then on Lucas banned Chewbacca from any future New Jedi Order series and we got Lumpawarump.

    So whereas the EU was indeed mindless insanity, it was our mindless insanity. Most EU fans like me who are aware of the shitshow it was accepted that it wasn't perfect and cherry picked our own headcanon from the books. Disney essentially ripped that from us and forced this inconsistent, uninteresting slop down our throats.

    They lost a chunk of fanbase decanonizing it, receiving ridicule en masse, when they could have just ignored it and put out their own events anyway. I'm not just one of those "couple of stories" guys, but I will concede that I am one of those "couple of stories I actually really enjoyed" guys.

  • I'm on the Trek side with this one. Tossing aside the EU was an absolutely insulting move by Disney. They could have had a field day with Corran Horn. His story covered everything from deep sci fi hunting down the Imperial Remnant in rag tag space skirmishes to high fantasy wielding a lightsaber made from a swoop bike handle that changed length when you twisted the throttle.

    Instead they put out mindless drivel that holds consistency about as well as a sieve holds diarrhea. Sometimes there's a nugget, but most shit just runs through.

    As a Star Wars fan I've always considered Star Trek very classy with intelligent nuances and a solid backbone. I just never could get into it. Probably my penchant for high fantasy. My uncle and grandfather are proud trekkies, though.

    The whole Star Wars vs. Star Trek thing is just apples and oranges anyway. Each also has it's fair share of "that one fan" we all dread, as displayed by Stephanie here.

  • I tried a fair few browsers for android. Iceraven, Fulguris, Fennec, and Mull. I settled on Fulguris, because it was no frills with custom adblock lists and a good built in darkmode.

    However, Fulguris became a headache because any app that required a browser portal login wouldn't recognize it.

    So I moved to Mull. Then Mull dropped the project. Mull, Iceraven, and Fennec are basically the same idea as Firefox derivatives.

    I use a free, massive coverage, open source icon pack called Delta and between Iceraven and Fennec I liked the Fennec icon more.

  • I recently rediscovered RSS with Read You on F-Droid (I enjoy it's UI and bionic reading). I also found something on Github called Follow that I use on my desktop running CachyOS.

    People should be rediscovering RSS. It's news that you tailor to yourself and doesn't come bundled with the "social" part of social media.

  • I thought hard on this (I just like naming things). I came up with gemming. Graphical Environment Management. Unixgems.

    It sorta works because customizing your environment is sort of like putting the finishing gems on it.

  • Maybe a bit plain since I'm only at mediocre level in my Linux journey, but I use my favorite fonts for Kitty. Recursive Mono Linear and then for italics and comments in neovim I use Recursive Mono Casual Italic.

    Recursive Linear is so tidy and neat, with just the lightest touch of personality. And Casual keeps that style but tweaks it just ever so slightly to a more comic. And they have sans versions of both as well for everything else.

    I also made my own Starship prompt to match my desktop. It runs an easily reconfigurable color palette and uses color coded chevrons to denote different git statuses.

  • Syncthing is great and incredibly easy to use. I have mine set to sync my Obsidian notes so I don't have to pay for the official service.

    I have tried multiple different open source note apps that offer free local sync, but I can't find anything I like. It frustrates me because I love open source.

    Using Fennec now, but I tried out Iceraven and it seems like a solid alternative as well. Last update was a month ago, so seems to be active.

    I used to use Fulguris. Thought it was dead (last update 9 months), but I see the github owner replied to issues yesterday. It just had a lot of site compatibility issues.
