  • Democrats stopped using "gay" as a pejorative like 25 years ago. We all agreed not to anymore.

The amount of homophobic rhetoric I've seen used to describe Trump and Putin is really contradicting this statement.

Democrats love homophobia if they can justify it as "we're saying homophobic things but only to homophobes therefore it's okay! It's tactical homophobia, not actual homophobia!"

(To be clear, fuck both Trump and Putin, they're monsters, but saying shit like "Trump just wants to suck daddy Putin's cock" is homophobic.)

  • Unless I absolutely have to for logistical reasons, I refuse to talk about me being a vegan to others.

It typically results in a debate in which I have no desire to participate. I've had the same conversations with people over and over again in my 9 years being vegan. I always either have to censor my opinions, or I end up upsetting someone when I say I think this thing they're doing is morally wrong.

People rarely engage the topic with genuine curiosity, they usually just want me to assuage their cognitive dissonance and tell them "oh the way you eat animals is totally acceptable!"

  • I do wonder what the Corsican's name is in French given that boneywasawarroirwayayix is very English (language and culture) specific.

His original French name is Ocatarinetabellatchitchix, which is a reference to a song by Tino Rossi (who has Corse ancestry).

  • Drake John Eric Guitard Metallic

    That's quite the name.

  • The BSD in OpenBSD stands for Bain, Savon, Douche, which is probably some form of European language.

My best guess is Estonian, and it likely means something like "be clean upon yourself".

  • Sadly, l'OQLF does not have a suggestion for yeet as of yet.

  • The headline is misleading to what is actually being proposed; the Idaho stop means treating stop signs as yields, and red lights as stops.

  • From Dante, to Jamiroquai, to Nazis, to tunnel, to Caillou. These are all from the same day. I fucking love Wikipedia.

  • Sousrealism is the real surrealism.

  • As someone who loves both pickles and cucumbers, I couldn't disagree more.

If I'm craving one and someone hands me the other, I'll be upset.

  • Désolé, je ne suis pas des États-Unis, j'espère que tu puisses trouver quelqu'un avec plus de familiarité des politiques locales américaines que moi! :)

  • He's not entirely wrong.

How is a Jewish person voting for Mamdani stupid?

  • I checked out the Twitter account. I think it's clearly a joke, but the guy is a big Trump supporter so I'd say he does ultimately believe the rhetoric behind the joke. Therefore, not satire.

  • Clearly you've either never had hope or have already given up.

I get it, we've all been burned by politicians promising things and never delivering. I think it's easier to deliver on campaign promises at a local level than in national politics, though. Even at the scale of NYC.

For an example of a mayor of a large city delivering on their promises, look at Anne Hidalgo in Paris (coincidentally, also a member of a socialist party).

  • It's not Nazi unless it's from the Rhine basin area, otherwise it's just sparkling genocide.

This is what you're arguing about. The intent in calling them Nazis isn't to insinuate they're members of the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei and no one would assume that's the intent.

"Nazi" is common parlance as a shorthand for genocidal fascists because the Nazis are by far the most well-known genocidal fascists.

The meaningless semantic argument you're putting forth is either a useless distraction, or you're simply purposefully arguing in bad faith to derail the conversation.

  • That's what package managers are for, though. Or add the GitHub repo to your RSS reader if you want the details.

Lemmy is a social media, like others have mentioned in this thread I don't mind this type of post nearly as much if the person posting adds their opinion/analysis/summary.

  • I can't really not go to work just because it's raining. Not only would it fuck over my coworkers; I need the money.

It's not like I'm made of salt, anyways :P With a raincoat and rain pants it's really not that bad.
