  • Ooh that's a good point. I mean, not Linux Mint because as thanksforallthefish said below it's not a Mint-supported DE but I actually installed Arch (btw) with the KDE Plasma DE onto an old laptop I have and yeah it definitely gives early-2010s OS X vibes. :)

  • That's legit.

  • I hate GNOME because it feels like an iPhone.

    That's fair.

I don’t know much about what Ubuntu is doing but it surely can’t be that bad.

    You would be surprised.

  • Yeah...

See, I used to like Ubuntu, but then Canonical had to ruin it for me by betraying the principles that Linux stands for.

Ubuntu is a shadow of its former self, and it saddens me. :(

  • You know, I can see that.

Still, mac users use macs because they just want the computer to work.

And the Cosmic DE is rather new so can be a bit buggy from time to time. It might look mac-friendly, but its stability is still largely untested so caution may be advised before recommending it in my opinion.

  • Can confirm. I've used FitGirl for years and countless games and have never once had an issue with malware. She seems pretty reliable on that front.

  • Ubuntu is heresy. Canonical hath turned against the users.

Also, I'm genuinely curious: why do you hate GNOME?

  • They didn't say beeteedubs so clearly not.

  • If she's a Windows refugee, Linux Mint.

If she's a Mac refugee, fuck if I know.

If she's a IBM OS/2 refugee, please let me know how to get the drugs she's gotten. I want in.

  • I will now respond with a single word:

    Dafuq?

  • I get panicky from time to time.

Then I try to remind myself of my threat model.

It helps me to re-center myself.

In a storm of emotion, logic can be my rock.

  • While I agree with everything else you said, I would like to specifically respond to the following part:

Maybe he is considering not everyone is an adult on the platform.

God forbid a child hears the words "shit", "ass", or "fuck". 1) That's not the end of the world, no matter what conservative parents groups would like people to think, and 2) I guarantee you that 99.999% of children have heard at least 2 out of 3 of those words from television, movies, and elsewhere on the Internet. It's a word, nothing more, and not that big of a deal.

Again, though, I would like to repeat that I agree with what else you said. I just wanted to respond to this particular part.

    Have a great day!

  • So I guess you could say it's.....Metadata?

  • I 100% agree, but to be fair, in some jobs there really isn't much to do. Lol.

  • With dumbphones, you’re usually limited to regular phone calls or SMS/MMS messaging.

    That's kind of the point.

Sure, you can't do much with them, but by that very fact you also won't have nearly as much data to be spied on.

Likewise, you can do much more with a smartphone, but that comes with a much higher surface of attack, and you also have to work a lot harder to keep all the data away from spying.

Oh my gods that sounds so fucken painful

  • In that case, they can only not regulate the crossing of the VPN signal across state lines, but they can still regulate your connecting to it, which happens in Michigan.

  • Probably like 2–3 years ago I switched from Plex to Emby because the Plex app on my TV was becoming bloated and slow.

Even back then my TV was hitting 5 years old and still working great. Why the hell should I be forced to scrap a perfectly good television just because some corpo wants to ship overly bloated apps with too many animations?

  • Sorry for the late reply (it's been a busy week at work), but yeah, unfortunately, not all software supports that method. For instance, it doesn't seem to work on Matrix when using either Element (desktop) or FluffyChat (Android). So, I just got into the habit of do it that way everywhere because at least most places seem to support it. Lol.
