  • Ask yourself how many people are successfully selling their products and services on Lemmy, for example

I’m still stuck on asking how many people are successfully selling their products and services on TikTok.

Like, what businesses are these and what are they selling? I wouldn’t imagine any of these social media platforms would be good for selling anything on. What’s an example of something I could go on TikTok and buy? I couldn’t imagine buying anything on any social media platform. I’ve never even seen anyone selling anything on any social media platform. How would I even do that if I wanted to?

It’s just a spreadsheet system but it uses python under the hood so you can do some pretty cool stuff with it. You can use it to build a little item tracker for yourself to your own specifications.

For example I used it to make a system for tracking car maintenance. So there’s a sheet for managing car parts, a sheet for managing job types, a sheet for managing tools and then a main sheet I can use to add repair and maintenance jobs, quick add the parts I’m buying, tools I’m using etc and I’ll get a total cost and all.

  • The numbers presented on TikTok are absolutely 100% made up nonsense.

  • I see this sentiment a lot but I don’t understand, which small business are doing all of their business exclusive on TikTok?

  • That command would remove everything in the folder, and every subfolder. But yeah pretty dumb.

  • I would be receptive of this if it was limited along geographical or cultural lines, but given that in Civ you don’t really play as nations from different time periods but rather their most modern equivalent (Like Germany instead of any of the previous countries that became Germany over time) I have the feeling you’ll be able to go from Japan in one age, right to American in the next age, my interest level in this game has dropped exponentially. Like, the driving mechanic behind the entire series is guide “A civilization” through time, not a series of entirely different, unrelated civilizations. That’s why the game is called Civilization and not CivilizationS

  • CIV does loosely fit into the grand strategy genre by way of scale and mechanics, but you’re right that it’s usually not included, mostly because of the nature of how symmetrical and “video gamey” each game start is.

  • The appeal is that Humankind did it and they’re trying to ape the mechanic from that game, even though nobody liked it in that one either.

  • Porco Rosso is slept on and it’s a crime. Must watch the dub with Michael Keaton in the lead role.

  • After seeing The Boy and the Heron in theaters… I think Miyazaki is done putting out bangers.

  • Blinko:

    https://blinko.mintlify.app/introduction

A fairly new addition to the space. It’s functionally very similar to Memos, but with more flashy features. The creator began the project because they liked memos but wanted some more features.

  • It’s also very likely the divorce was the reason for the behavior. Getting lost in the sauce of that nonsense is a tragic but not unreasonable reaction to the trauma of divorce, or just being hurt by a woman. That ideology and the people who make money from it prey on weak, lost men for a reason. Thats what its designed to do.

  • It looks like a platform for generating and hosting personal websites/ landing pages or whatnot that you can host under their domain. The “digital soul pods” is nonsense but there there is an actual term for what i think the creator is driving at which is Digital Gardens.

There is actual a product just like this that already exists, though for the life of me I can’t remember the name of it. https://we-b.site/ Is one.

Just think of what Substack or Medium are for bloggers, but for a more versatile personal page about whatever you want.

  • Linktree is a (the most?) popular personal landing page for all your social media links and such. It’s functionally like a universal bio you can link to in the bios of all your different social media apps, and it contains links back to them.

There are existing free open source self hostable alternatives like Linkstack which I use. I’m assuming OPs project is something similar.

  • Supported genocide. Palestinian specifically. And not like “Supports Israel and thinks civilian casualties are an unfortunate inevitability of war”, but very unapologetically thinks the Palestinians should die.

  • I agree with your sentiment but to my knowledge Musk is a naturalized US citizen

  • I mean you can and they probably will. Unless something is easy enough to make yourself in your garage there will always be a free market to expand into and then extinguish.

  • Using browser exploits to steal commissions from affiliate links without even the user knowing. Let’s say you follow an affiliate link to a product and you go to checkout. When Honey pops up and tells you either that it found you a discount (or even if it pops up to tell you it didn’t find you anything) it secretly opens a new tab to the page which replaces the cookie in the browser that contains the code that identifies who to give the commission to. Instead of the person who gave you the link getting their commission, Honey gets it instead.

Then if you used PayPal checkout, they would also “find” you discounts but swap them out with lower ones and pocket the difference. For example you buy something for $10 and they find a 30% off coupon, but tell you it’s a 10% off coupon. You go to checkout with PayPal and they charge your card $9 but only pay the merchant $7 and pocket the other $2.

  • Oh it opens them. Reliable playback is something else entirely.
