A geologist and archaeologist by training, a nerd by inclination - books, films, fossils, comics, rocks, games, folklore, and, generally, the rum and uncanny... Let's have it!

Elsewhere:

  • Yrtree.me - it's still early days for me in the Fediverse, so bear with me

  • It shouldn't be too difficult. A move is essentially a cross-post but it keeps the OP as the poster (rather than the cross-poster). You'd then want to lock the original post, and either hide it or add a message directing people to the new post. That's all current forum software does.

  • Yep, it's a great British success story.

The only issue has been availability. You might be better using a thin client or SFF PC.

Although favourites tend to be from HP or Dell, looking around there is:

    • Axel - French
    • Igel - German
    • Praim - Italy but information is skimpy
  • No, it's a great name. I want Superpiss merch.

  • Awesome first post!

  • We can't have anything nice.

  • It's encrypted, it can sometimes take a but for the keys to propagate.

  • I was listening to a report on this earlier. Grim stuff. I worry for young people having to grow up in this kind of environment.

Online communities known as “Com” networks represent an “emerging threat”, reports of which have increased sixfold in the UK from 2022 to 2024. The agency’s analysts estimate that millions of messages in the UK and other western countries have been shared relating to sexual and physical abuse.

The NCA director general, Graeme Biggar, said: “These groups are not lurking on the dark web, they exist in the same online world and platforms young people use on a daily basis.

If they aren't using E2E encryption then the platforms are seriously dropping the ball, again.

  • Scum and obviously so from the time he somehow stumbled into politics. I still think thr BBC have questions to answer about having him on things like Question Time.

  • From my perspective we need better Mod and Admin tools. Forum software has a lot of them but Lemmy is lacking in this department.

The key important one is being able to move posts to different communities. You'll often get reports of posts not being appropriate for a community but there is no way to actually move it.

  • I haven’t found a good EU alternative yet.

    Hetzner?

  • In the UK:

    • Waterstones - bricks and mortar shop
    • Awesome Books - online only, often the cheapest price
    • Hay-on-Wye - the town of books
  • Matrix - you can also add bots to expand the core functionality.

  • Lemmyin?

  • Bring it on Zuck and we'll be waiting to usher the refugees to the Fediverse.

  • We're still European, just not in the EU.

  • Good shout.

One of the most important things about GW is they've created a strong hobby base in the UK and trained a lot of people in game and model creation, who then leave and set up their own companies, making Nottingham a hotbed of such activity.

Warlord Games are there - they make Bolt Action, Black Powder, etc as well as skirmish games for 2000AD.

    There is also:

  • No, that's when everything hurts and you start forgetting things and... something else, probably.

  • Or home cook.

  • Awesome Books (British) often has the lowest prices.
