  • Starmer wishes Thatcher was still alive so he could kiss her feet.

  • Sounds like COINTELPRO ngl.

  • I actually do imagine the reason the west haven't assassinated him is probably, to some extent, that Putin is taking steps to ensure Zelenskyy's personal safety.

  • But that's not even the real sides. If you want to look into it, the actual two components of liberalism are low Right-Wing Authoritarianism and high Social Dominance Orientation.

The "philosophical" argument is essentially that liberals are all cuddly and feel-good because they're not right-wing authoritarians, but social dominance means stomping on others to elevate yourself because you believe you can and deserve to. Ironically enough, it fits quite neatly with fascism, especially fascist leadership, which is why liberals and fascists always make such good friends.

But the main implication here is that, in truth, liberals have always been the bad guys and always will be. Things like racism, misogyny, queerphobia may not be required elements of their worldview, but they are so helpful for getting a leg up over others that they inevitably feel they must have the freedom to practice them anyway; and in that sense, neoliberal economics and hate are inextricable.

  • Note that perverse incentives come from all arms selling, not only if it's major.

You will now only give significant support to those countries which need it the least (rich ones), need to engage in predatory economics or outright imperialism to efficiently manufacture arms (else you'll strip your own resources and may not have enough to defend yourself), passively (if not actively) encourage those who buy from you to engage in more war (as they will know they can acquire more weapons if needed), and create a reputation for yourself as responsible for global violence (people will notice it is your weapons being used to exterminate their loved ones, and that you did it for money).

There is never a net benefit to making death into a market.

  • Is the fact that people, including right-wingers, prefer spaces where race science talk is kept to a minimum, a sign that we do not live in an era with too much racism and in fact we live in a very equal and fair time?

  • "Our officers are following the law, not agendas."

Laws are written by politicians, who have political agendas; therefore, following the law is following a political agenda.

  • It's entirely possible to mitigate both drought and flood, both hot and cold. It just takes more effort so most governments (and even individuals) don't bother.

  • I actually do think Putin would assassinate Zelensky if that would accomplish anything for him, and that he doesn't want the war to end before he's secured everything of relevance in the Ukraine. However, he doesn't actually stand to gain anything from Zelensky's death, as the man is a replaceable figurehead and has gotten in the way (of fascist factions) more than his potential replacements might.

  • i only skimmed and didn't really take this seriously because it seems full of buzzwords with no substance

  • It's the paradox of wanting Linux to be widely supported but not wanting it to become a walled garden experience. The average consumer is not keen on "different" and "complex" and designing all of Linux around the preferences of those average consumers would mean sacrificing the advanced features and customisation power users enjoy.

  • Arch is not dumb shit and recommending it to beginners is fine if they are curious and want to learn about stuff.

Recommending Arch to people who just want a working machine is silly, and stuff like Gentoo is kind of dumb shit.

But if you want a simple "it just works" distro you should probably be using Mint or Pop! or similar, and avoiding trying to do anything unnecessarily advanced unless you are cool with reading manuals and so on.
