  • Advertising existed fine before the tracking part became an entitlement.

  • You’re probably right, but we both know companies would go on for years if nothing intervenes. Then blame it on the dead man when there is no money left.

  • One of my biggest concerns with subscriptions has to do with death. It feels gross to imagine companies just entitling themselves to my bank account after I’m gone, providing no value to anything, until someone comes along and cancels everything. Feels like one last free cash grab that could go on for years. I imagine board members congratulating each other for legally looting a dead man’s corpse.

  • Okay. So they do this in Japan. The plastic used in the wrapper is different than the plastic in the bottle. They require different processes to recycle. It’s also far more efficient for regular people to just rip it off and throw one in one bin and the other in another bin in their own homes than it is for a sorting facility to go through mountains of this stuff trying to get it right every single time. Frankly I wish more places did it this way.

I hope this explanation will make things even less infuriating.

  • Welp, this might be kbin for me. It’s the only circumstance I’ve really found a PWA necessary, although I’ve considered making PWAs of some online shops I frequent.

I suspect Apple is eliminating PWAs from safari in the EU just because they don’t want to be forced to allow 3rd party browsers to do the same. Let’s go ahead and throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I’ve actually got a U.S. apple account on an iPhone bought in Japan, and living in the EU temporarily. It’ll be interesting to see how this is going to play out for me.

  • Is a meta account required?

  • Ads don’t bother me as much as their invasiveness. I block ads because…

    1. if a business is dirty enough to resort to interference with popups to get attention, I’m not spending money there. Period.
    2. I don’t want to support mass surveillance perpetrated by the industry.

Give me simple tech ads on tech sites, grocery ads on store fronts, travel ads on travel articles, etc.

  • For being too low.

  • These days Dr. Evil would still get laughed at for demanding the $100 billion.

  • Do they even think about where in a functioning society those trillions are coming from? Do they think wealth just magically appears without affecting the wealth gap?

  • I'd like to use Jelly Fin, but it has not been a great experience for me on a Mac with an Apple TV. HDR doesn't carry over, some videos are blocked due to music licensing or something, and the library syncing doesn't always work. I'm not sure if it's a Jellyfin problem, a lack of support for Mac hardware, or just my personal incompetence with this sort of thing (very likely). I managed to get Plex to work without issue, so I'm using that even if I don't really like the UX all that much.

  • There's a calibration process that takes place after a set of Zeiss lenses are inserted and the code scanned. My concern is that this calibration process will likely not be triggered for any insert not made by Zeiss. It may not be a hard software lock, but it would suck if your AVP just didn't work as well just because you didn't buy from the people Apple wants you to buy from, even though it probably could anyway.

  • As someone who's been using apple devices for a long time, this pretty much summarizes one of my biggest concerns with the APV. The other being expensive, proprietary, and software-locked lens inserts. (Basically creating a proprietary tax for people with poor vision who want to be involved with spacial computing, antithetical to Apple's accessibility efforts.)

  • AI surveillance company

I already don't like those words by themselves...

  • Can I just get a cheaper option that has no software whatsoever?

  • I haven't lived in America for over a decade and I'm still reluctant to go into a hospital for any reason for fear of costs alone.

  • whaaat? Robots don't just have their own inherent sense of morality for whatever reason???

  • Maybe, just maybe, if the government hadn’t been doing something worth whistleblowing about, those people would still be alive.
