  • If you think the porn industry is exploitative and abusive now, just wait until they push it all underground.

  • She also has an MEd, which is a Master's in Education. I think people like the one you're replying to skim her Wiki and read it as Med, as in Medical, which is hilarious.

  • Middle ground on social issues: "Separate but equal"

  • I think the French saying is a response to rising Fascism. If Fascism is taking power in your society and you do not directly and explicitly oppose it, then you are at the very least going to be tacitly supporting it. By definition, centrism cannot fight Fascism, because it will always "both sides" the problem, which ultimately only benefits the Fascists. This is what we are seeing now in the US with the Democrats. The only realistic opposition to Fascism in this scenario is Leftism.

  • So good. I love that song.

  • I have some genuine questions for you.

Do you think men go through months (or years) of hormone therapy, potentially go through sex reassignment surgery, buy thousands of dollars worth of women's clothing and makeup and accessories, get their name legally changed and all their legal documents replaced, and subject themselves to being bullied from every angle including from the state, just to get a peek at a woman's naughty bits in a public bathroom?

If a sign on a door works to keep trans women out of women's bathrooms, do "gun free zone" signs work to keep shooters out of schools? Do you think the people who don't care about laws against sexual assault care about bathroom laws?

The bottom line is this: Men already generally don't go in the women's bathroom. The men who want to assault women aren't going to upend their entire life by pretending to be a woman just to gain entry to a bathroom, and they certainly aren't going to care about a sign on a door. They'll just assault women as they have been doing since the dawn of time, no skirt and matching heels necessary.

  • Yeah I was shocked by the math on that one too. It is ridiculously cheap to lower crime and poverty, while increasing graduation rates and college enrollment. It's almost like keeping people poor and stupid and criminal is intentional.

  • Not that I'm in favor of disarming citizens, but if you bring up gun control around these people, one of their first arguments against it is that a database of people who own guns is bad because it will be used for nefarious purposes. The unspoken part is "because that's what we would do."

  • Perfectly legal under the "whatthefuckareyougonnadoaboutit" clause. Under this clause, anything is legal as long as nobody does anything about it, which is exactly what everyone is going to do.

  • You might be interested in the story of Tengelo Park.

Harris Rosen went from a childhood in a rough New York City neighborhood to becoming a millionaire whose company owns seven hotels in Orlando, but his self-made success is not his proudest achievement.

Twenty years ago, the Orlando, Fla. neighborhood of Tangelo Park was a crime-infested place where people were afraid to walk down the street. The graduation rate at the local high school was 25 percent. Having amassed a fortune from his success in the hotel business, Rosen decided Tangelo Park needed some hospitality of its own.

“Hospitality really is appreciating a fellow human being,” Rosen told Gabe Gutierrez in a segment that aired on TODAY Wednesday. “I came to the realization that I really had to now say, ‘Thank you.’’’

Rosen, 73, began his philanthropic efforts by paying for day care for parents in Tangelo Park, a community of about 3,000 people. When those children reached high school, he created a scholarship program in which he offered to pay free tuition to Florida state colleges for any students in the neighborhood.

In the two decades since starting the programs, Rosen has donated nearly $10 million, and the results have been remarkable. The high school graduation rate is now nearly 100 percent, and some property values have quadrupled. The crime rate has been cut in half, according to a study by the University of Central Florida.

"We've given them hope,’’ Rosen said. “We've given these kids hope, and given the families hope. And hope is an amazing thing."

  • "How Do You Sleep At Night?"

    Like a fuckin' baby.

The thing about psychopaths is that they don't feel empathy, shame, or remorse. The shit that keeps you up at night, the suffering and destruction and genocide, that's all just white noise to these soulless fucking ghouls. Might as well be rain forest sounds or ocean waves crashing on a beach. It's all the same to him. John Fetterman doesn't give a single flying fuck about Palestinians being slaughtered. Hell, he doesn't even really care about Jews. John Fetterman cares about John Fetterman, and nobody else. The only reason he supports Israel is because that's what's good for John Fetterman.

By all means, call him out in public. It could damage his image and cost him support, and that's a good thing. But it won't cause him to grow a conscience. That ship sailed a long time ago.

  • They’re starting with “Illegal Immigrants,” and to them, deviant “Transsexuals.”

Once they get rid of all the immigrants and trans people, does anyone really think they're going to dismantle the infrastructure, bulldoze the detention centers, and fire all the excess agents? Or is it more likely that they will just find new out-groups to throw on the pile?

It blows my mind that people see this happening in real time and just go "that'll never happen to me".

  • "Dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen." - Heinrich Heine

Book burners have never once been on the right side of history.

  • This won't stop until the job becomes too dangerous for them to do.

  • It may not be the worst thing he ever did, but it's a perfect display of how petty and selfish he is. People asked him not to do something, and because he thinks those people are beneath him, he went and did it for no reason other than to show them that he can do whatever he wants.

  • This is the "public vs private healthcare" debate all over again. You can draw a diagram with crayons proving without a doubt that free public healthcare is cheaper than having to pay higher premiums because poor people use the ER as their primary care and then skip out on the bills, and they still won't get it, because they've been so propagandized by late-stage Capitalism that they actually believe "what's good for the billionaire is good for me."

I've had these arguments countless times with people. Here's how it goes every single time:

Them: "Why should I have to pay an extra $X a year to provide [SERVICE] for other people?"Me: "Because the data shows that this will lead to better outcomes overall, which in turn leads to fewer people on public assistance, saving you far more than $X a year, resulting in a net gain on your part. Here's the data, look for yourself."Them: "Fuck that. I don't want poor people getting free shit!"

As long as half of the working class has billionaire Stockholm syndrome, this will not change.

  • This isn't a good example. These two images were 80 years apart, and the people running the company under Nazi rule are long dead. May as well be a different company at that point. A much better example is the exact same company in the exact same year putting Pride flags all over their socials in western countries, while refusing to put Pride flags on any of their non-western socials because they don't want to offend the countries that gleefully imprison and execute LGBTQ+ people.

  • Totally off topic, but Maggie is just awesome. If you aren't familiar with her, I suggest doing a deep dive into her video essays on cinema and pop culture. Here's a link to her site. Also, there's a really interesting episode of Behind the Bastards with her as a guest, talking about being a descendant of notorious cannibalistic child killer Albert Fish.

I have nothing to add on the actual topic though.

  • Fair enough. It happens to us all.
