  • My partner was like that when I got a dog because he thought he would need to compete with the dog for my love. We were in our early 20s and I'm sure being raised by the toxic narcissist of a parent didn't help. He got over it fast after I asked why the fuck would he ever think that way.

  • And FYI for any woman out there, these are better for health, as they don't blast bacteria from back to front. There was a study about it that I read several years ago, which I kept in mind when choosing a bidet. I went for a handheld one, too, and it's great.

My company has been moving to solutions developed and/or hosted in EU for privacy reasons, but at the same time continue to go deeper and deeper into M$ ecosystem because the management believes XYZ product sounds cool and/or works better than the alternatives we're using. I'm just waiting for this circus to fall apart.

  • Lol, we used those little transmitters that you plug into the cigarette lighter plug until several years ago in a mid 2000s car, and they're still sold and used by people. The funniest thing that happened was when we were overtaking a semi who had one of these, but with a stronger transmitter, so for a couple of seconds we were listening to the guy's random turbo folk music.

  • I have a coworker who greets me with "Hi, what's up? How's it going?" and then just continue walking without expecting an answer. It's such a pet peeve of mine, lol. We're not Americans, we live in Europe, and this person is definitely an exception, but it still catches me off guard every single time.

  • It does feel great to leave an employer that pays and treats you like shit, doesn't it? I had one of those sweet fuck-you goodbyes.

    Basically, my contract was about to expire -- they abused temp worker time limited contracts -- and a few weeks before that I said I'm not signing the extension. My TL was really desperate, offered to accommodate, say I'm next in line to receive the unlimited company issued contract instead of the temp agency one, that included a small raise (because the temp agency wouldn't take a piece of my cake) and some benefits. I knew this was coming, but it meant nothing to me. So naturally, I was like lol, nope, byeeee.

    The reason why they were even handing out company contracts is because the turnover rate was so high, more people were leaving than applying for the position, and the company was desperate to stop the remaining employees from leaving.

    I do get a raise each year now, but that's only through collective bargaining. The employer can't weasel out of it. But it's only catching up to inflation and the rise of cost of living. Well, not really, but it's at least a tiny bit of something. The real raise, though? I was told in a very nice corporate way to go fuck myself. I'm sorry, but I'm not working myself to death just so they swould maybe give me some peanuts. It definitely hurts when my partner has gotten multiple raises plus bonuses in their company, and I'm here getting fucked. Well, the least I can do is to not work hard, and do the bare minimum, since the employer doesn't value my time.

  • "Great work, but going forward you have to work even harder!" is what our CEO said, among other absolutely outrages comments, some of which have become memes in the company. I wonder why they think I would want to work harder, if I'm not getting my raise anyway 🤷

  • So kind of like in Austria, but not as bad. The overtime cap is 70 hours (total, and does not get wiped each month) before you can start getting paid for each extra overtime hour. But the tax eats enough of it, that many people just exchange it for days off before they reach 70 hours. Or just work longer hours Mon-Thu and work shorter Fridays -- of course, this doesn't work for all job positions. I don't think employers are legally allowed to force the workers to use up that overtime, and there is a legal daily limit, but how it works in my company, we just transfer those hours to another day instead, so people can still work over that limit regardless.

  • I'm starting to understand why some people believe in the simulation theory. Like, this is too dumb to be reality, right? Realizing how utterly stupid and hateful people who voted for this are, is genuinely terrifying. Idiocracy, but worse, because at least the president in it was redeemed.

  • My main issue with the zones is for some inexplicable reason one cannot save their template. You're stuck with the default ones, and -- at least in my case on Fedora -- the custom one you set up tends to reset on reboot (not always, which is also ?? unless somehow it gets affected by OS updates?).

    Had a customer insult a coworker's mother. The coworker was in her early twenties, moved to this job from waiting because she couldn't take dealing with people face to face while she was grieving her mother's death. She was sobbing on the phone, while the customer kept being an antisocial asshole.

    Many people think only students do these jobs (perplexed why they would even think that) and that makes them believe they can mistreat the employees. There was an interaction between a coworker with no kids and one of these assholes. She was fed up with this shit and bit back, telling them she's a single mother of two, and to stop assuming who works these jobs. Funnily, it shut the customer up real fast, and suddenly they were apologetic.

    These are just two from the sea of many that I remember off the top of my head years later.

    It's the same type of people who think fast food workers shouldn't get a living wage because it's a "high schooler's job".

  • My first dog died at a little over 5.5 years old in my bedroom. It was so traumatic, the stress triggered an autoimmune illness and I haven't been the same since (it's been 3 years and 3 months).
