  • Get an Xbox then and use m/KB with crossplay. Or play better games, apex runs through proton, get them to play that instead. Anyone switching away from cod is a good deed.

  • Don't play league, it's filled with psychological bullshit tricks to get you to keep playing. If you have to play a moba play dota 2, it's just a better game.

  • I actually feel bad for people on windows 11. People, please just switch to Linux already. There just isn't any real reason to stay on it anymore, and if you do you've got some ridiculous bullshit niche setup that 0.1% of people use. And for people on Nvidia just grab that Nvidia pop_os ISO for that idiot proof setup, seriously, there are no more excuses and it's really not any more difficult to use than Windows. Don't listen to people saying you have to open a terminal to do anything either, that's a straight up fucking lie, and if you really have to, then copy/paste is all you need to know.

If you have to use rtx and dlss to justify your overpriced graphics card, then there's AMD fsr that can be forced on damn near any game you want, it's not as good but it gets the job done, as for Ray tracing, come on...be real with yourself for 5 minutes, what game other than control has use Ray tracing in any meaningful way other than to look pretty?

Windows is just not worth the hassle anymore, wake the fuck up people.

  • Well isn't that what FOSS provides for us thought? The ability to control everything the software does and we own the content being shown. If we choose to block that content then that's our right, if threads chooses to allow everything under the sun there's nothing we can do about it but wait for Facebook to do it for us.

  • This is why the whole situation exists, IMO if there was a reason to believe China is trying to influence united states citizens, then this wouldn't even be a discussion. There are probably hundreds of Chinese companies that operate in the US, why is tik tok signaled out? Because there's probably a reason they're being singled out. It might be nothing, but I'm inclined to think that the people who signed the bill know more than what they're letting on for national security reasons.

  • It's also a subscription based search engine. After Neeva imploded I'm not going to be investing money into a subscription search service.

  • Well the article title sucks, but also it's not a monopoly so idk what she's bitching about.

  • If you build your PC specifically for the purpose of using Linux it does work out of the box. I realize that's a very specific use case though. AMD graphics just works, installing anything based on Ubuntu just works, if you download the Nvidia version of pop_os it just works. This out of the box excuse just doesn't hold any water anymore.

  • The steam deck is also the reason why we're hearing so much about an Xbox handheld/hybrid. OEM partners are screaming at Microsoft to make a mobile UI because they want their products to sell and they don't want to spend the r&d to develop one. Steam deck is already crushing it's competition even when it's using an older chipset and less powerful hardware due to the ease of use of the product.

Valve struck gold in a product market that has predominantly been high priced mobile PC's from companies like GDP, largely due to the fact that they have no obligations on licensing costs and are using their own OS. I wouldn't put past Microsoft to try and capitalize on ARM and the handheld market at the same time and push out some ARM based Xbox handheld that's capable of XCloud streaming and x86/ARM compatibility to fight Apple and Valve. Of course this also means anti cheat makers will need to build compatibility into their products for those handhelds, or else Microsoft will have the same problem Valve has with SteamOS.

  • You completely miss my point, are you saying data such as copyrighted published works and medical records are free? Because I did not in any way consent to sharing medical records to OpenAI https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-chatgpt-generative-ai-stole-personal-data-lawsuit-children-medical-2023-6?op=1

Now I realize this is an alleged offense, but it's still fucked up. As for wanting to be the first to make a LLM, I have no desire to put myself into that amount of responsibility and liability. Sam Altman is chasing money and nothing more.

  • I fucking hate how this company is just taking data and metrics without any permissions and repercussions. OpenAI and Sam Altman can fuck right off. Same with Microsoft and copilot and every other company rushing for the AI/ML arms race, its disgusting and irresponsible.

We joke about skynet and terminators and whatnot, but the reality is OpenAI is legitimately moving towards that end with no safety precautions, no thought put into the economic and humanitarian impacts they're going to cause. Capitalism in general (and yes I'm going to be that guy and say it) simply cannot survive the AI/ML age of humanity without evolving.

  • I really really like proton pass, was using Google password manager prior but I primarily use Firefox and Firefox's password syncing is just bad. Proton pass has been a surprisingly reliable password manager.

  • You're getting down voted but in all honesty, you're not wrong. All it takes is one x86/64 alternative to show the world that Intel and AMD aren't the only players in the game. Apple did it with ARM and the m1 chip, now we're hearing reports of Microsoft actually putting a real effort into ARM and making their own chips for AI instead of that half-assed Windows on ARM initiative. I for one love this competition, because that only benefits the consumers.

  • https://www.law.com/corpcounsel/2023/07/18/lina-khans-antitrust-losses-cast-doubt-on-her-sue-dont-settle-philosophy/?slreturn=20240221150002 apparently she's just taking the sledgehammer approach of suing companies instead of working with them to understand their motives and to make reasonable concessions that will benefit everyone. If those concession discussions fail then you sue and have more leverage in your case I guess. Either way, it's a fair criticism IMO, and for the record I'm not really a right leaning individual, I just think she's jumping into lawsuits without doing her homework first.

  • Yeah and hasn't she lost pretty much every case she's brought forward? She failed big fucking time with the Microsoft/Activision merger even though all the antitrust evidence was right in front of her nose. I'm glad the FTC is trying, because they're actually doing their job, but they're doing an awful job when it comes to actually being in court and proving their case.

People shit on Sony for trying to block the merger, but they absolutely were right for trying to block it and now games like starfield, the new Indiana Jones, and probably more in the future will be deliberately left off the PlayStation platform altogether. But that's all okay right? Because now you get call of duty on gamepass!!!!!!! RIGHT????!!?!???!????

  • Yeah, the sad thing about Devin AI is that they're clearly doing it for the money, they have absolutely no intentions on bettering humanity, they just want to build this up and sell it off for that fat entrepreneur paycheck. If they really cared about bettering humanity they would open it up to everyone, but they're only accepting inquiries from businesses.

  • Only reason I still have windows is for Geforce now. Unfortunately the web browser version doesn't support 1440p 120fps and it's stuck using h.264 on Linux with AMD. The good thing is that once it's setup I don't really need to interact with Windows much since I literally open GFN and discord and that's pretty much it.

  • I've never in my entire time of using a modern Linux distro have ever had to change scrolling speeds with a terminal...that's just utter bullshit.
