  • Another confirmation that Endeavour is great with Steam. However I did have to follow the Arch wiki to install the correct Mesa drivers on my new PC (Radeon RX 7800 XT), as without those the GPU performance was crap.

  • Ugh I still run Ubuntu LTS on my living room HTPC, and generally it's fine. But on the occasion I need to fix something, I swear every seemingly relevant forum post is from 2015 or earlier. It's maddening.

  • It means the same as "The decision clears the way" at the start of the 2nd paragraph.

This process was blocked multiple times by the state attorney general. The lawsuit outcome says he was wrong and that the proposed amendment can now continue in the legislative process (possibly in parts, with each part requiring voter signatures).

  • Normally that's what I'd do. But I want this Progressive Politics channel to be a better place, and that requires calling out problems rather than ignoring them.

  • I agree that line has been used to justify abuses and atrocities by the Israeli government. But that's not exactly what Bernie said.

This clip is literally "Israel, and the United States, and every other country has the right to defend itself from terrorism". Not just Israel, and not defense against arbitrary things. It's more specific than your cropped clip and comments suggest, and repeating a cherry-picked version makes you seem disingenuous.

  • Right? Is this phenotypic or genotypic?

  • Well the top one is just a crude left-to-right gradient overlay with no regard for the shape whatsoever. You could slap that shit on any old shape and it would basically be the same, red on the left and violet on the right and that's it.

The bottom one is a nice smooth transition that actually follows the shape. That's why it's so much more pleasant. The hue change occurs continuously as your eye goes along the path.

Oh and the bottom one is a more balanced shape overall. The top one feels too tall. Maybe it's a golden ratio thing, I don't know.

  • Discordian!

More serious answer: I never had one to begin with. Why start now? All it seems to do is sow division.

  • Also, some words

  • Oof that's a little too on the nosecone.

  • My understanding is that AOSP is still and will continue to be a thing. That's Android. What Google has done though is put more and more new capabilities into Play Services, which are not open, rather than AOSP.

I hope someone will correct me or add better nuance though.

  • Start by not talking to cops, even if they're just potential cops.

I mean, I'm aware that's considered good advice in general. FWIW though I'm assuming this is with 20+ protesters standing in easy earshot, not a private 1:1 conversation. Maybe there are better questions, or someone else should ask? Or is it better to ignore the potential cop? I feel like other protesters would want to be aware who is hiding among them.

  • I think the point here is to be aware of a combination of these items. e.g. If the person has a vest (more noticeable), they might also be wearing a wire (less obvious).

I'm not sure there's a good excuse to bring handcuffs to a protest. Nothing wrong with being kinky IMO, but leave that shit at home.

  • So are you saying that asking questions (maybe not these specific ones) wouldn't be helpful here? If so, what do you propose instead? Ignore the person? Notify the protest organizers?

  • Ok, what's a better way then? I flat out told you I don't have experience with this.

  • I have no real experience with this IRL (so probably means I'm in the target audience) but I understood the graphic to just be a starting point.

Couldn't it just be resolved with a simple follow-up conversation? e.g.

"Hey you're not a cop, are you?"

    "No way man"

"Ok, lift up your shirt for a sec."

If he won't, he's probably wearing a vest and/or wire.

Or alternative scenario: "Hey you're welcome to join, but you gotta ditch the handcuffs."

"What, you mean this tin of sour candy?"

  • You're going to have to define "real magic" here, otherwise this makes no sense IMO

Testing herbs for effects sounds like folk medicine or alchemy at best, but those have been replaced by more rigorous fields like chemistry and pharmacology.

  • Hm, I don't care for that. Magic is flashy and fun because it's entertainment. But science doesn't look like they depict in movies and shows.

As a process, science looks more like that nerd with the clipboard taking notes on mushrooms or nuclei whatever for 20 years. Then they edit papers from other mushroom / nuclei nerds and go to a conference to give seminars and debate the others and ultimately publish more papers and eventually some books, and if we're lucky a documentary. They're exploring hidden worlds in a way that is very opposite of the showmanship and illusions we popularly call magic.

  • I really love URLCheck, available on F-Droid. It intercepts URL requests, gives you some info, and prompts you to choose a browser whenever you click a link from another app.
