  • I'm doing my part! More to strengthen the EU, than to weaken the US, but: Cancelled all US tech subscriptions (not a small deal as a software dev). Cloud services all moved to Scaleway in France, AI migrated to Mistral, mail to Tuta, maps to Mapy.cz and more...

  • Do they really though? That's what writers want to write because it 'gets them views' - a malaise of modern media. I'm one of the 'people', I'd rather have a sober analysis.

  • Spoken like a true statesman... 🙄

  • Would you say they're at the top of that slippery slope, or part way down it already?

Maybe today's top brass wouldn't, but there are probably enough JD Vance types among the MAGA lovin' grunts to promote, to structure an army that'll take Trump at his word. If he says 'Europe were the enemy all along', enough times, with enough conviction...

Wouldn't have believed it myself until this year.

  • Are there any AI apps that will index markdown documents with a vector DB, then allow you to run natural language queries using some kind of RAG approach with a local LLM?

Closest I've found is LlamaIndex, but this is still more of a 'foundation' than a turn-key solution and right now I'm too time-poor to do the assembly required...

I realise I'm describing close-to-frontier tech, but is there anything more turn-key (Dockerised) out there yet?

My use-case is pretty 'vanilla' in this space: Having a knowledge base and wanting quick answers to questions like "How should screen X behave if I am not a registered user?".

    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • US Tech need to start relocating. I emailed Warp Shell creators advising I'd reluctantly cancelled my subscription to their actually excellent product; because funding the US economy had become 'morally incompatible with my workflow'. Hope others can do similar.

  • Judging by the language and behaviour we've seen so far; I doubt it's at all sophisticated. 'Might is right' and the US should belittle and subjugate others because they can - it's their right and furthermore their duty to the American people! In other words, he's probably a straightforward imperialist.

I don't know the guy though so if anyone can add nuance to that I'd be glad to understand better. If his true feelings are benevolent towards Europe and he's 'merely' frustrated that they're not pulling their weight militarily, then he's got a ham-fisted and harmful way of showing it.

  • That'll be the post doing it's job 👍😉

  • Enjoy it while you can, they're coming out on top.

  • Heavy downvote for an awful attitude.

EU should be strengthened for the benefit that will bring to all who live there now, in the future, and to promote the positive values they have long brought to the world.

As I've said in my previous posts, forget US if they want to make themselves irrelevant, strengthen Europe for it's own sake.

Do better OP, this isn't the European way.

Also why is this shite upvoted overall, are we already suffering the Reddit way of auto upvotes on any post regardless of their content? I cant believe the ratio going by the responses here.

  • Exactly, I couldn't be happier with my Octavia. Well rounded, practical family hatchback with a VW engine and all the mod cons; it hasn't skipped a beat in 5 years and going strong. Will be looking to buy Skoda again next time.

  • Impactful? It has to be supporting EU in the AI race!

If you have a ChatGPT or Claude subscription; please switch to paying for 'Le Chat Pro' from Mistral.ai, to help them grow. It's a very capable LLM, honestly not as accurate as Claude yet, but not far off, and cheaper at $14 USD (ironically).

It's also really fast, and has a superior image generator to others.

  • Forget the US. Do it to make EU stronger.

  • I actually agree with most of what you're saying but you could try to sound less insane. 😅

  • Weird hill to die on perhaps; but I'll never forgive Microsoft for arbitrarily deciding to not support my Core i7 6700K 4Ghz CPU on Windows 11.

Simply because: I cannot find a single actual technical reason why it wouldn't be compatible (yes, my mobo also has TPM). It's even higher specced than many other 'supported' chips.

MS apparently just decided I hadn't spent enough money lately. Well now I won't - on your products - ever again, while this i7 will continue to run Win 10 for games and Linux for all else.

  • Also if it really mattered I'm sure the UK could work out how to do much if the required maintenance themselves. It's not exotic tech at this point.
