It might not matter weather or not he targets oil. We Canadians understand how important our energy supply is to the US and we're willing to cut that supply of as a bargaining tool. This is where the find out happens following the fucking around.
The idea that we ought to be using time away from work/school to pursue productive activities (especially those that make us more productive at work) is pure capitalist toxic bullshit. Spending days working intensely to only afford the basics of life is the true travesty.
Why do I suspect they're going to follow a similar model that the ussr used with the gulags - only take the absolute worst aspects of what is ascribed to communism...
Reddit didn't used to be that way. Slowly over time it devolved into the same self-flagellation that happens more on "share my thought" type platforms like Twitter. I hope we are better able to manage our federations to keep that type of content at bay while remaining open enough to let people speak their truth in the face of oppression.
I don't know the Australian constitution or legal structure either, but as vehicle regulations are set by the feds thes states still need to deal with the repercussions. They could do nothing instead, but they have no power to reduce vehicle sizes.
A better approach might be to get rid of parking requirements altogether. But, that's more likely to be political suicide for the elected officials than to spur on a broader anti-car sentiment, especially given the rural nature of the state.
This policy is at the state level and states do not have jurisdiction over vehicle standards. Vehicle standards are regulated by the national government, so this is more of an addressing the symptom of an issue the state has no control over the cause of.
That doesn't mean it's not ridiculous that garage size regulations are what's changing, but let's cast share where it's due.
Why not both? I have a strong suspicion the climate wars are going also be a class wars. Although, if the common folk won't, getting jailed for war crimes against the rich may never be prosecuted 🤷♂️
Cities asking residents to use less power is largely due to the fact that most cities have no direct policy power to regulate electricity use. Electricity use is primarily the domain of state/provider policy.
Cities asking residents to lower power usage is thereby an ask for residents to collectively work to avoid brown/black out situations for the collective good.
Messaging like this without a similar ask to the tech/industrial community would still be short sighted at best.
I used to wait until the last minute to board, until the time I had to put my carry on bag at the back of the plane and my personal item under the seat and ended up being the last person off. One of the more uncomfortable flights I've been on.
I think that using an incorrect word counts as a grammar error - sort of like how misuse of they're their there is a grammar error.
