  • I heard of it from a Reddit comment about an easter egg location in Diablo 3 called "The Fowl Lair." It's filled with chickens and a single Greasy Pig.

  • The Chicken and the Pig

The fable of the Chicken and the Pig is used to illustrate the differing levels of commitment from project stakeholders involved in a project. The basic fable runs:

A Pig and a Chicken are walking down the road. The Chicken says: "Hey Pig, I was thinking we should open a restaurant!"Pig replies: "Hm, maybe, what would we call it?"The Chicken responds: "How about 'ham-n-eggs'?"The Pig thinks for a moment and says: "No thanks. I'd be committed, but you'd only be involved."

  • I thought I was polite in my initial request that they cut back on linking their site, I don't recall ever suggesting people collect their pitchforks and torches. Please be more dramatic :)

  • I'm just not interested in having another source of non-stop (undisclosed) advertising trying to appear as organic engagement and am announcing it publicly in the hopes that they either limit their use of it or to at least make others aware what the user is doing.

It would be one thing if they were announcing they own the site but it's the only place they link to and it gets shoehorned into multiple communities with calls to go visit it.

  • Please consider not constantly trying to self-promote your website.

  • There's a video by a designer talking about some of the symbolism of Ellie's journey (Full talk video here -- SPOILERS for the film in both).

And also an insightful YouTube comment(!) someone made in response describing their interpretation:

"This is one of the most thoughtful and insightful reviews on deeper film meanings I think I've ever seen. In keeping with the rebirth symbolism, I would offer the following possibilities.

    1. The transport pod symbolizes more of a womb, rather than a gas chamber.
    2. The chair may not be an electric chair but rather a means for Ellie to assume a modified fetal position while in the capsule. This would mimic the position of a baby of in a womb prior to its own birth.
    3. The wires plugged into Ellie represent an umbilical cord to sustain her, rather than a means to kill her.
    4. The periodic updates given by the mission control staff as to the status of the machine (10%, 20%, 30%, etc.) mirror the increasing dilation of women in labor (1 cm dilated, 2cm dilated, 3cm dilated, etc.).
    5. The wormhole sequence mirrors the new life traveling through a birth canal.
    6. The capsule takes on a liquid form to symbolizes the protective amniotic fluid to keep the new life safe.
    7. After Ellie’s “birth”, the first person she sees is her father.
    8. This rebirth scene is enhanced by considering Ellie's mother died from complications of childbirth when Ellie was born. This backstory enhances Ellie's natural reluctance to be reborn as her initial birth killed her mother, and permanently altered her life.

There’s undeniably imagery of execution and rebirth simultaneously occurring within the same frames! The filmmakers did an outstanding of capturing some very compelling storytelling while inserting remarkable symbolism."

  • I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise but I just want you to recognize that your position is that you're ok with "bad" people being killed as a form of punishment and mine is that ensuring that label is always appropriately applied is an impossibility.

I don't like the thought of terrible people getting to continue to live if they've done irreparable harm to others, but I'm also not ok with saying that we totally need to burn THAT WITCH because Goody Constance totally witnessed them communing with the devil.

Osama/Hitler getting killed in military action - fine. An abused child/person killing their attacker - look the other way. Giving Edward Snowden lethal injection because he totally deserves it for endangering Americans - not acceptable.

  • Consider what your thresholds are for what constitutes witnesses and admissions of guilt. For example, confessing to crimes that weren't actually performed by them, do you honor the claim anyway?

And does a group of police witnessing a suspect or conversely a group of the suspect's friends witnessing a police officer do something heinous count?

Remember any mistakes cannot be remedied.

  • The possibility/certainty of intentional or accidental false convictions doesn't affect your acceptance of the state meting out permanent punishment?

  • Just seemed like a needlessly confusing specific detail to include as it is not a necessity to have any wifi connectivity at all and might mislead OP/readers into assuming it has some relevance to ports. It should be sufficient to just say router unless the question involves SSIDs or related components specific to that connection method.

  • Just to clarify, nothing about ports requires wifi to be involved at all. It doesn't need to be a wifi router, a network doesn't have to be connected via wifi.

  • The Piped bot pisses me off because it doesn't seem to check if the triggering comment already includes the exact link it's about to post. I used to preemptively include Piped links with any YouTube ones but since it would trigger the bot anyway I just stopped bothering.

Aside from the clutter it adds, until I added the bot itself to my blocklist (instead of just relying on "Show bots" being unchecked in settings) it would also cause reply notifications that couldn't be cleared in the default Lemmy web UI.

  • A 'Freudian slip' is when you say one thing but mean your mother.

  • This wasn't an innocent request for interesting topics to follow, it was taking the stance that only serious topics get discussed here and it's boring:

I’d like to see the fedi let its hair down a bit. It’s okay to talk about stuff other than infosec, privacy guides, distros, and Gaza.

It wasn't a demand, but certainly requesting that we "let our hair down a bit" and that they "often get bored of the Fediverse."

This post could have been phrased as "What are some good non-political or news related communities?" And I'll gladly accept the label of being elitist if it's because I have minimal expectations that people explore for solutions before complaining and implying it's everyone else that needs to change. You can't browse all without easily bumping into the things I listed, and if you aren't aware there's different filtering options there's always a sidebar link instructing you how the platform works.

  • I'm not the one complaining about being bored and requesting that everyone else amuse me. All those things I listed are things that are regularly posted so what's the issue?

  • Yeah, where's the fun? There's no posts about owls/bats/invertebrates/cats/dogs, no cooking or food posts, no pictures of people knitting socks, nobody asking general questions, no articles and pictures about space, no discussion around movies/tv/books, nobody ever posts about gaming of any kind, there's no memes to be found anywhere, no poems or short stories, no digital/traditional/AI art.

For some reason browsing news/politics/technology always seems to revolve around depressing and infuriating topics which is different from every other platform.
