Cuteness enjoyer.

  • I finished NHK ni Youkoso!. It's quite a lot of action and drama for someone like me but I got through it fine. The plot feels quite forced at points, but I guess I feel that way about seemingly any plot based anime series so I don't know if that says anything about this one in particular. I thought the characters were quite human and the subject matter is presented very well despite it flaws.

I like that the end is mellow and bitter sweet instead of Tatsuhiro improving a lot or completely going down the drain. He gets a shitty job but apart from that has a similar lifestyle. Misaki was always manipulative with a cold exterior but I hoped their relation would warm up after the last suicide attempts and that they could be at least be friends without a contract. While Tatsuhiro's condition has improved (not a hikki neet anymore), I don't think Misaki's condition has improved as she clearly has the same abandonment issues: she still needs Tatsuhiro secured by contract to not leave her. But on the other hand, when I think about it, marriage is also mostly a contract to stay together with a penalty to paid upon failure. Makes you think.

Depressingly, Tatsuhiro is presented as a bottom of the barrel character yet he seems way more accomplished than I am at his younger age. He manages to live by himself at age 22 (and younger). Maybe it's just fictional bullshit or 2006 Japan is build different, but paying rent by yourself with a seemingly minimum wage job is wild. Still, he has his own place which he pays for himself by age 23. Convincing your parents to pay your living costs for years while being a NEET is kinda impressive as well. Dude has talent to be a diplomat or something. Multiple girls are interested in him which is no small feat either. His biggest problem was being a hikki neet but he escaped that by the end. All in all he doesn't seem that much of a failure to me.

  • I see things like Nichijou, Lucky Star, Azumanga, etc. Those are all favorites of mine but I don't think they are very weird. I would recommend Poputepipikku, Sakigake! Cromartie Koukou and most of all Pani Poni Dash! Maybe Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Depends on how weird you want your weird shit to be.

  • move on

    Jump
  • to the afterlife

  • I'm partial to girls doing art anime. Sounds a lot like "Comic Girls" but with older girls.

  • If money was no issue I would direct a SOL over anything remotely action related but I'm just a random brain damaged moe slurping idiot so choosing the opposite is probably what any well adjusted adult would do. I even think bocchi was a bit story heavy so I will be interested so see if they double down on that or not.

  • puru puru pururin purupururin...

  • I'm watching something that is not a moe show (NHK ni youkoso). It's 24 episodes long, so that's at least 24 days of no moe. It's not like I need moe or anything, baka! I'll be just fine without moe. (gonna overdose on moe afterwards)

  • Same mangaka, same studio to do the adaptation.

  • I don't, I didn't do it back then and I ended up using this system for much longer than I thought I would(4+ years). I want to do it next time but I don't feel like reinstalling just for that.

  • I always shut it down every night, so usually not much more than 12 hours at best.

  • My terminal doesn't "scroll" at all. Page up and down is all I need. I also don't smooth scroll in my browser usually. Does it add anything? Isn't smooth scrolling just worse actually (just like any other animation ever)?. The sooner the screen stops moving the sooner your eyes can lock on, focus and read. I never payed attention to it but you say it's not widely supported, and that kinda makes sense to me. I can't think of any reason to have it. I do lots of things in the terminal, I don't even have a file manager. Smooth scrolling would make me slower and I would go crazy. Also you could scroll and end up with half a line visible on the top or bottom, which is just kinda weird and wasting space.

  • Technically everything can be a slice of life. But preferably it is used for stuff that focuses on daily life. Is frieren actually a slice of life or is this a case of shounen fans calling everything with less than 50% action a SOL? I also heard frieren is a slow show. Is it actually slow or just by shounen standards?

    • I build software that I changed or patched
    • When the bat version in the repos was broken I just installed it with cargo which compiles the latest version
    • You can get a compiled version with a '-git' package from the AUR if you need the latest features not yet in a stable release
    • Some pieces of software I use I made myself so they are compiled by me
    • Maybe you want to install some software that is not available precompiled
    • The XZ backdoor didn't work if you compiled it yourself: https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2024/03/29/4
  • Personally I wouldn't call that replacing. But that's probably because I am a deranged minimalist. I can't answer this thread because technically I didn't remove anything that my installation started out with.

  • Do you really replace bash though? I also use fish but even as a relatively deranged minimalist I haven't removed bash as it has so many dependents.

  • I watched Joshiraku and Ichigo Mashimaro. Joshiraku is decent. Not as sharp and artistic as its brother anime Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. The ED is very popular but the op is the real banger in my opinion. Ichigo Mashimaro is amazing. They don't make slice of life like that anymore. Wonderful art style. Effective humor, quite dry. The show feels very effortless. Only negative point is that Nobue is kinda sus.

  • I have finished all of Minami-ke, for now. It's not the best thing ever but it grew on me. Season 1 is decent, season 2 is the worst in my opinion. Season 3 is decent again and season 4 felt quite comfy. In 2025 season 5 will come out after a gap of more than 10 years. It will join Hidamari Sketch as a rare slice of life with 5 full seasons. Both classic SOL that started in 2007. I also finished all of Gochuumon wa Usagi desuka. It is just a very good show, I hope for another season one day.

  • The one in particular that you brought up is how much the girls don’t want to be too muscular, but rather just slim.

I haven't seen this show but isn't this just realistic? Most woman just don't want to be ripped or bulky. The real danger is woman thinking they are definitely going to be all buff if they work out, and thus not working out or doing sports. And not doing any of that is not good for your health. Woman should know that gaining significant muscle mass is already hard for men, let alone woman, so they can work out safely without worrying too much. As long as you don't hop on the juice and/or devote your life to the gym.

I mean, her role is to absorb damage for the party, muscles are kind of a prerequisite.

It's a show with magic and stuff, so I don't think that holds. Reasoning the other way around, if it would hold, then given her appearance Darkness shouldn't have the physical ability that she indeed has.
