  • You're getting down voted right now and I think it's important to understand why because I had a similar reaction not too long ago. I was curious to understand my own biases and what I think it's important to share what I learned as a cis male in IT.

Women just want to be women. Some want to wear nail polish and "look pretty" while others want to just rock a T-shirt and jeans. Like men who wear full tux and debug code at 6pm on a Friday (because they aren't farmers), they want to be what they want to be.

Men have the luxury to wear whatever they want (for the most part) and not get shit for it. Women have to do everything that men do and do it with maturity while handing the shit that men throw their way.

I learned this lesson when I was the sole male STEM counselor at an all girls camp. It was a volunteer gig that my company put together. They had last minute cancellations and I had time on my calendar and so I volunteered. I did not know it was all girls and I certainly did not know I'd be the only guy.

I stayed curious and helped where I could. My job was to be a project manager, help teams understand how to win their competition that had set requirements. So I walked them through all that and looked over their code. There as a dedicated "make up hour" where the girls were encouraged to make their presentations "pretty" with make up, glitter, etc. I personally found it pointless given how far behind we were but I kept my mouth shut.

    And I observed.

The fact that these girls could do this and do IT was immensely powerful. You could see their spirits lifted. It rocked my world and made me check my own beliefs. Why not allow them to be pretty? Why not let them take an hour to put glitter and stickers on their board if it made them happy?

Did we win? No. But they enjoyed it.

In my 20+ years in tech, we need more women because they bring perspective in ways I don't. Not because they want to be pretty because they provide insight in ways I don't expect. Anything I can do to help make that happen I'll gladly do.

  • Study after study has been done on every election looking for people who publicly say they are moving if their party lost. They found consistently that the number of people who follow through are in the single digits.

Trump famously said he was going to leave the US when he lost to Biden. We all begged him to go but nope.

MAGAs have repeatedly said they are going to move to Russia or Argentina or other conservative places only to realize they wouldn't be in the ruling class.

  • this is, in a round about way, making a right. Democrats are being disenfranchised in Texas and to make up for it, Republicans are being disenfranchised in California. If you want to complain, fucking ask the Republicans in Texas. They can easily and quickly unfuck this whole situation by making no changes to their districts.

Want to know the test on the whether the Republicans want to play fair? Republicans in California should be scolding their colleagues in Texas for redrawing maps unfairly but instead are blaming Democrats in California.

The Democrats are finally starting to realize you can't play chess with a child who refuses to acknowledge the rules.

  • Do you remember what the Trump administration promised to deliver two weeks ago?

    That's why it works.

  • It's true in the same way that he had a chat with the president of Puerto Rico.

  • The political process and how to change it in a meaningful and lasting way without risking tyranny profits of the capital class is almost always the problem.

    Ftfy.

  • If we get Bell riots because of this it will be worth it.

  • I added a cross brace across the back as well as a cross brace on either side of the desk, with a 6" extension. The desk immediately became sturdy with just one brace but I added the second. It held my 200lbs ass on the front without issue.

I think I could have done just 3" and it would have been fine. But now I'm confident that I can have sex on it which is a side benefit to just the standing desk mount.

  • Three. One to put on. One to have at the ready. One to wash.

  • The fact that police officers can lie but people can't shows you the terrible power imbalance in our law enforcement.

  • I have a very common name. My Starbucks name is Bart.

  • Honestly, at this point people should use Pornhub.

  • They history are.

But Trump is threatening to not pay the back pay and only pay those who pledge allegiance to him.

  • Do you think he fucking cares? He just wants the gold shiny so he can be like Obama.

  • I point this out every time GOP and ObamaCare and Repeal are mentioned.

Republicans in 2016 fucking RAN on repealing the ACA. It was a full blown blitz. In the final years of Obama, Republican-controlled House and Senate fucking PASSED full repeals of the ACA. Obama, of course, vetoes each one of them. They amounted something like 80+ bills to fully repeal it.

Trump runs on getting rid of "ObAmAcArE!" He wins the White House with, again, a Republican-controlled House and Senate.

Not ONE single bill to repeal the ACA was ever introduced. Famously, Republicans said "TWO WEEKS!" for their plan that never came to fruition.

Republicans know how popular the ACA is. They also knew that Trump would be dumb enough to sign a repeal into law.

This is all performative politics: gaslighting their base so that they will look good in upcoming local elections. Republicans, again, fully control the House and Senate and could repeal the law full-cloth but they don't. Because they know they'll get slaughtered in the elections.

  • The sad (but predictable) thing is that it worked.

Republicans HATE Obamacare. But don't you dare try to take away their Affordable Care Act Medicaid!!

  • I set up a tasker job to automatically delete cached pictures in specific directories (e.g. screenshots, downloads, etc.) every few hours. Honestly probably the most useful thing tasker does for me.

  • Huh never noticed. I used imgflip to make the meme.
