Independent thinker valuing discussions grounded in reason, not emotions.

Open to reconsider my views in light of good-faith counter-arguments but also willing to defend what's right, even when it's unpopular. My goal is to engage in dialogue that seeks truth rather than scoring points.

  • Implying that every Trump voter is a fascist is idiotic and highlights just how out of touch political activists on social media are - regardless of which party they support.

  • Treating every Trump voter as a bigot is no different that treating every democrat as a communist. Can't really blame people for not voting for communists, can you?

  • Great display of double standards here again. It's fascism when they do it but perfectly understandable when we do.

Being fine with this mean you're no better than the people you oppose.

  • And go where? Get off twitter and come to Lemmy to get dogpiled for not having views that perfectly align with ours. People wont get off twitter untill you offer them a better alternative.

  • It's just bizzare to me that there's data caps on your internet plans. Especially since you're already paying 5x more than I'm for unlimited connection. I assume there must be some other reasons for this too than just greed. Perhaps the size of your country? I mean even Texas alone is almost as big as entire Europe.

  • I'm the only guy in my (small) friend group who still used pattern code instead of fingerprint so I take that to mean my phone is by default more difficult to break into than most. Giving my fingerprint to a giantic tech firm has always seemed like a bad idea so I never did. Though the fingerprint reader acts as a power button too so who knows if they've scanned it anyway.

  • The front lines are not static so you can only imagine the difficulty SpaceX has trying to determine which terminal is in Ukranian use and which ones are Russian. For all we know, they may have disabled hundreds if not thousands of terminals they've found out to be used by the Russians and are getting no credit for it. I don't buy into this narrative that Elon is personally invested into Russia winning. I've seen no evidence for it but plenty against it which everyone just seems to conveniently ignore because Musk bad.

  • It almost sounds like you’re trying to argue that he’s actually a man of his word. That guy wants a lot of things. Most of it he cannot get.

  • And even if not, I'd rather be miserable on a cool bike.

  • When I was like three I watched the property maintenance dude plowing snow on our building's front yard with a pickup truck and I thought that not only was it the coolest job in the world, but oh, how badly I wanted a truck like that too.

Fastforward 30 years and there I'm staring at one in the used cars parking lot at the local dealership realising it's what I've always wanted and I can actually afford it too. Now I get to stare at it every single day because it's mine. I even ended up starting my own business later so now it's not only fun to drive and beatiful to look at but also useful.

  • I've found life to be slightly less stressfull when you stop worrying about this that you 1. can't do anything about and 2. likely wont even happen.

The world was supposed to end in 2016 when he got elected and I bought into that. It didn't. I'll be a bit more sceptical this time around.

  • I'm still waiting for the wall to be built with Mexican money. Just because Trump says he's going to do something doesn't mean he actually will. I don't care what liars say, I care what they do.

  • How dumb are you?

I could ask you the same thing for expecting me to answer to a question that ends like this. Now you just end on the blocklist with the rest of the incivil jerks.

  • Maybe lets wait for those tariffs to be actually imposed first before losing our minds over it.

  • He's from South Africa. He can't run for president.

  • It wasn't enabled in Crimea in the first place. The author misspoke/lied about in the book and has later admitted it.

U.S. sanctions to Russia forbid the use of Starlink. This includes crimea and the occupied territories. That's why it wasn't enabled.

To clarify on the Starlink issue: the Ukrainians THOUGHT coverage was enabled all the way to Crimea, but it was not. They asked Musk to enable it for their drone sub attack on the Russian fleet. Musk did not enable it, because he thought, probably correctly, that would cause a major war.

And before someone points out the 'cause major war' things, those are Walters words, not Elon's. Musk said "It would make SpaceX explicitly complicit in a marjor act of war and conflict escalation" He later also added that had he been contacted by the US officials and asked to enable it he would, but they didn't.

  • it’s hard to find a good trait about the guy

He's not a warmonger for one. He's pretty funny too.

EDIT: Also, though a bit synical, I must say that I find some enjoyment in how mad he makes the far left which I see as one of the main reasons we got Trump to begin with. He's the reaction to wokeism and identity politics.

  • This implies that U.S. stopping weapons deliveries would leave them without weapons and ammunation which is not the case. It would make things a lot harder for Ukraine and make them lose more soldiers and land but it wouldn't stop the war. They'd rather die than submit to Russia. Also, U.S. is not their only weapons supplier.

  • I don't see what this has to do with what I've said. I haven't claimed otherwise. I don't even like the guy and I wouldn't have voted for him if I lived in the U.S.
