    The ship is named after the PLA soldiers and Iron Bowl workers massacred during the protests. I know that wasn’t probably the aim, but still.

    Also I wouldn’t say that a single ship name is indicative of the entire franchise. It was worked on by thousands of people, and even if they were all diehard leftists, cohesion would be extremely hard to maintain.

    Plus I don’t care if it’s Soccdem, if we can get to the Star Trek Federation level of society. I will take that in a heartbeat over the current powers that rule the world today. Though I wouldn’t even say that it’s entirely soccdem, for example the series pushes hard on the “no money” aspect, which would be strange for a soccdem to focus on, but an integral part of communism. They even dunk on capitalists with that one episode where they revive the businessman and dunk on him because the stock market ceased to exist several hundred years ago.

  • Sexual education is vital. People must understand how the male and female human bodies work, how to spot STD’s, cancer signs, UTI’s, and how to be properly hygienic downstairs. People need to understand what are and how to use condoms, female condoms, safe lube, Plan B, IUD’s, birth control, copper implants, pregnancy tests, etc. People need to understand the weight behind having a child and the risks+how to avoid them. People need to fully comprehend and understand consent. People need to know what’s ok to put in your body (the amount of people who think using coconut oil, olive oil, hair brushes, broom handles, etc is safe is absurd)

    If we can accomplish that communist world… I could care less who is fucking who, what people do after going home from the club together, or what’s going on in the bedroom.

  • I feel like Arnold and Stallone get a lot of crap thrown their ways for their stereotypical “strong man” roles, but they can be legitimately incredible and emotional actors. Rambo’s breakdown scene at the end of First Blood for example, or Arnold’s satirical and charming performances in Last Action Hero, Kindergarten Cop, or just plain good acting in True Lies.

  • There have been many studies about how long nuclear would last, and the end answer is, no one knows. There have been results that say 80 years, 200 years, 500 years, and even 200,000 years.

    Further, this does not take into account nuclear advancements in recycling or even fission itself.

    Also who says you can’t mix nuclear and renewables? It’s just that renewables by themselves is itself extremely unsustainable. How long will the materials that make solar panels last? We need mixes.

  • We will not "run out of nuclear eventually". In the 80 years that we have nuclear fuel, we have used only enough to fill the pitch of a regular football pitch with 62 gallon barrels. The vast majority of that is from nuclear weapons as well. Further, nuclear fuel is in its infancy, and we have already begun finding ways to recycle the fuel we have been using. That's on top of uranium mining bieng essentially a rounding error compared to all fossil fuels, and already providing a sizeable portion of the world power creation.

    We also absolutely need to use higher energy dense materials, because then we can use less of them. Humanity is not going to magically lower its energy usage, and the human population will keep increasing and becoming more developed. So if you do not like the impacts of uranium (however small they may be) why would you be against Fission? You would use even less materials to acquire more energy.

    Governments have never “just let business fail” because under capitalism and its drive to consolidate and monopolize, the government will become an arm of corporate power. The weak and corrupt politicians are by design. The corporate welfare is by design.

    This has been been seen throughout the history of capitalism and is the logical conclusion to its processes and theories. If you have a system based on infinite growth and profit seeking, the system will always devolve to exploitation, monopoly, and government control. Why? Because it’s profitable.

    The very foundation that corporations working in their self interest will be a benefit to society is rotten, and has been shown to never work time and time again.

    The only progress we have seen has come from public endeavors, independent actors, and the people. Never corporations. Only thing we get from corporations is 35 different types of Oreos and 20 different types of toothpaste all owned by the same company.
