  • A couple of years ago i would say that a month of tinder gold or whatever isn’t the worst idea ever. Right now it totally is. It still probably maybe helps, but it’s just not worth the money. You can swipe more and get seen more and that might still be true, but your subscription doesn’t change the fact that the women you like get thousands of likes and you just go under or are lucky as fuck

I think it's more like the online dating space has been enshittified by one company buying out most of its competition and then jacking up prices. Hinge are owned by Match Group, who also own Match.com, Tinder, POF, Okcupid, The League and a few others. All of these are now overglorified Tinder clones that adopted the same 'swipe left/right to match' formula.

Also I suspect there may be some kind of shadowban on my account. Apparently this is a thing frequently mentioned on /r/SwipeHelper, /r/HingeApp and /r/OnlineDating, and the only way people have gotten past it is fully deleting their accounts, waiting a few months and then registering afresh. If that is the case and my profile is being obfuscated for whatever reason (maybe because I recently reactivated it after going dormant), then that would make Hinge X blatant false advertising.

If i were you i would shoot my shot at karaoke, and just do dating apps on the side

I mean... I would, but I don't really approach women that I find attractive (mainly fear of rejection, or worse, or I know for a fact that they're not single), and the only attention I seem to get is from gay guys and the occasional lady old enough to be my grandma. As I'm not into either, it can make me uncomfortable at times.

The main group chat I'm in mainly consists of middle-aged men and women. I'm also friends with two DJs who host evenings at various pubs which I often attend. Some of our regulars either already are professional singers, or have the talent to be.

I wouldn't exactly say I'm a good singer and when people say I've got a good voice, I feel like they're either being nice, or they're drunk and easily impressed. I've definitely improved compared to when I first started doing this, to the point where I don't quite hate the sound of my own voice anymore and there are some go-to songs that I can sing somewhat well. I really do want to take professional singing lessons and improve my voice to the point where I could be like a siren. Maybe that would have been a better investment than a dating app.

Probably the best compliment I got was when I went to a Central Bristol pub for a Christmas karaoke eve. The place was packed and about half the pub was cordoned off for a pre-booked work Christmas party. I sung Poison Arrow by ABC (one of my go-to songs) and on a part of the second verse which I legitimately belted out loudly, I audibly heard one of the guys in the work crowd go "Fuck me..." in astonishment. I left that place soon after, both because they were inundated with requests, and to get away from an Aussie lady who I met previously, she was living in a homeless shelter and was spending her eves scrounging off other guys in that place.

  • "Away from the hot steaming water? Oh, I’ll rebuke you in the name of Jesus." was apparently enough for a white police officer to pull out his gun and shoot an innocent black woman three times.

    What the fuck?

This is legitimately worse than what happened to George Floyd. Like... I genuinely feel angry for the relatives of this poor woman after watching that bodycam footage.

  • A literal billionaire with a sheepish following of mainly fangirls that could easily rival Trump's supporter base.

  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Yang, plenty of good candidates.

Sanders would be a bad choice because he's too old and while he's certainly more compos mentis than Biden, he cannot escape that criticism. Michael Bloomberg would also be a similarly bad candidate for the same reason, plus also for running an incredibly expensive and half-assed campaign last time around.

Ladbrokes currently have Michelle Obama as the second-favourite to win the Democrat nomination. She would actually be a great choice because it means Barack gets another four to eight years in the White House, albeit as the First Man. She also seems like a very sensible candidate in her own right.

Alternatively, they could go the Reagan/Trump route and usher in a celebrity as their candidate. Someone like Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Swift, Stephen Colbert or Jimmy Fallon would be huge.

  • Funny the page recommends OpenOffice when the entire FOSS community has moved on to LibreOffice in a middle-finger to Oracle.

Besides, OO and LO are shit. AbiWord is where it's at.

  • The disaster likely happened because Crowdstrike didn't do any phased rollouts or testing, which would have picked up a glitch like these before it could brick countless millions of systems. Blaming Microsoft for what is most likely gross negligence from a major cybersecurity firm is downright disingenuous.

Also, recommending an overglorified web browser baked into an OS which can only run web and Android applications to run critical infrastructure is downright laughable, ESPECIALLY when Google are known for their downright nonexistent customer support.

People use Windows because it's the most well-known and used OS on the market, and because Microsoft is a multi-billion dollar tech giant with a dedicated customer support and tech team to fix issues posthaste.

  • Kamala Harris is probably the second-worst candidate behind Hillary Clinton that the Democrats could field against Trump. She's disliked, she's a hypocrite (look at her current 'stance' on legalizing marijuana compared to her previous record as a prosecutor where she ruined thousands of lives with criminal convictions for smoking wacky tobaccy), and a vote for Biden was going to be a de-facto vote for her regardless, because we know that if Biden was going to fall seriously ill or die during his second term, she'd take over the presidency.

The Democrats have many better candidates to run. I hope they don't make the mistake of backing Biden's running mate.

  • Sounds like Kamala Harris is gonna be the next candidate. Biden's already endorsed her and I'm sure there's some superdelegate bullshit going on that will screw other candidates.

It could be the second time the Democrats field an unpopular and disliked female candidate against Trump.

  • I've seen people caught in paedophile hunter sting operations get less prison time than Just Stop Oil did.

  • Postponed is kinda inaccurate...

    1. Kyle Gass's talent agent has cut ties with him.
    2. Jack Black made a statement on Instagram to announce the tour's cancellation and that any future Tenacious D projects were on hold indefinitely, stating that he was "blindsided" by what Kyle said and that he condemend any calls for political violence.
    3. Tenacious D were big promoters of Rock the Vote, a nonpartisan organisation dedicated to encouraging more young people to register and exercise their right to vote, to the point of planning a campus tour in partnership with them. Can't really appear nonpartisan if you (even jokingly) wish for a presidential nominee and former US president to be assassinated.
    4. Black had a lot more to lose from this than Gass, since he's the one with an actual Hollywood film career.
  • MAPPA remaking Ranma 1/2 is a pleasant surprise.

Now I just wish they'd do a season 4 of Hajime no Ippo...

  • Metal fans are outraged.

  • What standards?

I've lowered mine substantially over the years and women still treat me like I'm scum of the earth, but will get with douchebags like this guy.

  • I am baffled at how bloomy rind dick cheeses like this guy can find one night stands, girlfriends and spouses, while I have struggled for years to date.

Because if you drunkenly boast to airport staff that your wife left you whilst on vacation, and you're driving 200 miles away to get another one, then you come across as one of those womanizing pieces of shit who somehow pulls when they don't deserve to. Actually no, you're worse than that, because your average douche wouldn't drink drive at 141 mph whilst taking dashboard pics on his phone for clout.

  • Biden: Refuses to step down after a dismal electoral debate performance that makes people think he should be in a care home and not in the White House.

Also Biden: Wrongly introduces Zelenskyy with the same name as the Jasper Carrott looking dictator who invaded his country two years ago.

  • I mean... aren't GNOME and KDE the two main GUI's that you use?

  • Games have largely caught up. Fifteen years ago, you couldn't run anything other than shitty FOSS games or the occasional Platinum AppDB rated game like World of Warcraft on Linux, and even for the latter the install instructions were convoluted. With WoW, you had to manually copy the files from each CD, save them locally and then run the installer because otherwise the installer would shit the bed and fail halfway through Discs 2 or 3.

The final hurdle for gaming on Linux is anti-cheat and that's going to be a mountain to overcome. Only two solutions (to my knowledge) currently have native Linux support and those are Easy Anti Cheat (EAC) and Valve Anti Cheat (VAC.) You're not gonna get anything requiring Ring 0 access (like Vanguard) running on Linux anytime soon.

  • It's sad when the best candidate that the Democrats can field against a Fascist who literally tried to stage his own Beer Hall Putsch against Congress and kickstart the Fourth Reich... is a senile fossil who should be in a care home, not the White House.
