  • $1,000,000 isn't nearly as much as people think it is. It's not even enough to retire on if you're middle aged. You could live extravagantly for a year or two on that money max.If you lived modestly at $50,000 a year of expenses (less than the median) you'd get 20 years out of it and you'd have to go back to work if you're younger than 60.If you lived comfortably at $100,000 a year you'd get a decade at most of of that money, if you're younger than 70 you'll probably have to go back to work. This article says she was 24 when it happened in 2020, so it's safe to presume she's 28 now.If she's extra careful with the money and doesn't spend it on anything fancy she can live until maybe 48 on that amount of money, considering all income is taxable though it's safe to assume she'll have to give half of it up to taxes and she could probably stretch it for 10 years to 38. But, seeing as the charge was shoplifting she's probably not in a good situation financially and almost certainly has no experience managing that kind of money. She'll get used to living a lifestyle she can't maintain and it'll likely be gone in less than 5 years. This settlement isn't making anything right, they're handing her a curse and it seems cruel to give someone a taste of a lifestyle they'll never be able to afford again. This is an insultingly low sum of money and it's likely to cause her more pain in the long run than anything.

  • They have shareholders now, if half the site traffic disappeared (and I feel like that's being optimistic about the actual number of real people on the site) it would be devastating to the stock price.

  • Too little too late unfortunately

  • No, but we'll stop propping up both sides and it will be able to reach some sort of natural conclusion.

  • There won't be peace in the middle east until we've moved beyond petroleum. When there's no need for oil the global superpowers won't need to play the regional powers against each other to take advantage of the chaos for profit anymore.

  • Wooster-shire

  • Let's see here, RFK wants to ban vaccines and promote raw milk. There is currently a bird flu epidemic in dairy cattle from bird droppings getting into the feed.Consuming raw milk is one of the few ways humans can become infected with bird flu.I'm sure this will be fine and the virus won't mutate to allow for human to human transfer, it if it does luckily it only has a 56% mortality rate compared to the Covid morality rate of ~4% during its peak.

  • Well, for one, I voted against the orange piece of shit who wanted to expand the genocide further than it already is.

  • Yeah, it's the area south of Pittsburgh near WV, why is it called Pennsyltucky instead of Pennsylvirginia? No idea. But, it's more of a "here be hillbillies" thing, especially when compared to the rest of the state.

  • Yinz is a Pittsburgh and Pennsyltucky thing

  • I'm lucky enough to be a state employee so I'll still have OPERS when Social Security is annihilated next year, but I'm not sure that'll be enough.

  • You forgot "Yinz"

  • We'll see how baffled they really are after they unanimously approve him.

  • Single issue voters and people who got too comfortable and stayed home cost her the election.I wonder if they'll still think their protest vote was worth it when Palestine is glass 6 months from now.

  • He's not dragging them into court, he has absolute immunity for official acts, he'll drag their bodies through the streets. He promised to be a bloody dictator during his campaign and I truly believe that's one promise he intends to keep.

  • If he's smart he'll have his family out of the country by then too. I know Trump planned on firing him, and I think Smith is smart enough to know that he'll use a firing squad when he does it.

  • The Fascists will fire people with firing squads, there's no shame in an act of self preservation when resigning from a job you can't do might keep you alive.

  • When you're stressed out or in a panic situation your brain will start to lay down more than one memory track at a time, this will cause time to feel slower when you think back on it. And because the "present" is constantly moving moment in time thinking back only 10 seconds can feel like 30 seconds, making time feel like it's crawling along. If you spend 8 hours at work stressed out, at the end of the day it can feel like you've spent 16-20 hours there.

  • Give me back my goddamn customizable colors too!I hate this "material you" theme they've been forcing on us for a few years now.The pastel colors are washed out and unattractive.
