  • If you can dig a trench, you can dig a firebreak. The firebreak is probably actually easier, now that I think about it.

  • Yes, absolutely.

I'd probably take something like 10% of it and go ahead and enjoy spending that, you can get some cool stuff for 1.5k that you can enjoy right now.

How you want to invest the bulk of it depends on your plans, but don't forget that things like a reliable car or a computer you might need for future schooling are also "investments" of sorts into your future.

I'm not so knowledgeable about all the different sorts of investments out there, so maybe someone else can help out there. Knowing what your medium-long term goals are will help them fine-tune their advice though. Are you planning on any sort of post-secondary education or job training?

  • I find it useful to remember that entertainment products are designed to be both understandable and fun, where real life was not designed to be understandable and fun.

With that in mind, no, I would not.

  • YSK Lemvotes.org will show you votes on any post, comment, or by user, for anything on the fediverse

  • Yeah, every once in awhile I check my starred pages just to see what random things got fat fingered onto it. It's mildly amusing.

  • Uh... there's got to be a better way to dispose of meth than making everyone downwind smoke some of it...

  • That does not really help. What does individuality and not always agreeing with other liberals have to do with monarchy and the guillotine?

  • How is that relevant to anything exactly...?

  • Eh, it's fine. Dealing with internet trolling helps me feel young. :p

  • No, that is also untrue. Liberalism is a belief in a free society. It does not mean I must agree with every member of my coalition. You need to look beyond tribal identities, though I do understand that individualism is also more of a liberal concept, so may be unusual for you.

  • No, you do not have to be far left to be against genocide or Israeli actions in Gaza. Remember, messy world, all liberals are not the same. Do you have anything of actual substance to add, or is generic lib-bashing about all we can expect from this conversation?

  • Off topic, but of all the algorithmic niches someone can occupy, I think the cusp of cottagecore and tradwife is one of the most interesting. I noticed some time ago just from being a Tolkein fan, that people were trying to claim Tolkein for conservative Christianity, really pushing hard on the Eru Iluvitar (sp?) aspect of his cosmology.

Do you get a lot of religious recommendations from your algorithms? Do you notice any particular trends in the permaculture community?

  • Cute. But being liberal doesn't mean you have to love every member of your coalition. Just means you have to deal with people living in a free society.

  • Sure, except changes are happening all the time, both in positive and negative directions. The world is a messy place, with a lot going on, on any given day. I do understand that it is very tempting to wish for simple solutions and to blame all of our problems on this or that ideology, but you can't escape humans acting like humans.

  • Again, it's not either/or. This statement of his does not indicate that he will keep everything the same. It just indicates he's proficient at playing politics in a system with multiple centers of power. I would call that kind of awareness of his situation a good sign for getting actually meaningful reform.

  • ahem We're not Lemians, we're Lemmings, thank you very much.

It's much more amusing and self-aware.

  • Probably both, it's not an either/or. He's working within a pluralistic society though, he won't have dictatorial power. He can't just decree the abolishment of the NYPD.

  • He's going to have to work with them after he becomes mayor, whether he likes it or not. Prematurely making extra enemies is not very forward-thinking, he has enough as it is.

  • Douchy, sure, but "how much should I send you to cover everything" also sounds like you'll be making a tidy bit extra on this booking.

  • 200 yards would be a pretty normal deer hunting shot, remember that people use scopes. Something actually impressive would be more like a mile. (1760 yards)
