  • I've listened to a bit of YKS and I respect that they have a particular vibe but I got the unshakable feeling that the funny era of the podcast was already long since over.

  • I'm not sure if there's hard data on whether engines or batteries generally last longer though, cuz a modern engine will get to 200k miles before it needs to rebuild. But batteries don't care about miles so much as charge cycles - but your main point about it being very easy to check is true, since you just measure the voltage coming off the battery, how quickly it changes, etc which doesn't require any disassembly and on most EVs there will be a diagnostic option to run a fairly accurate self test.

edit: I later looked this up and found that modern EV battery life is equivalent to about 300k miles of driving, and even if you treat it like shit it'll still beat an engine, generally speaking. EV electric motors last about as long, so assuming there isn't a manufacturing defect/crash damage, any EV drivetrain from the past decade is probably good.

  • more compression makes your car faster and more fuel efficient, but requires better gas and makes everything hotter.

  • Dunno about the rest of the US but California's uses car market is absolutely flooded with Model S'. I see first gen ones listed for under 10k. Compare to any other model EV of the same year and entry price and there will be able ten Teslaa per other manufacturer. That can't be because they are exceptionally high quality, long lasting vehicles.

  • did tenacious d ever get back together or did that bridge burn the fuck down?

edit: seems both gas and black have said it will return but nothing concrete yet

  • We need an alternative to

    that captures this phenomenon

  • {Understandable, have a nice day.|take estrogen take estrogen take estrogen take estrogen take estrogen }

  • If the Dems can't commit to arresting and jailing all of the top leadership of ICE at the bare minimum then they are 100% complicit (add it to the pile of evidence of their complicity). Frankly we should be seeing calls for a Stalin-esque purge of the American government of Trump appointees at all levels and the full dissolution of right wing government agencies like the DHS, and the fact that the only ones still calling to abolish ICE (a fraction of what needs to be done) are the still-fringe Social Democrats is proof that the Democratic Party is simply not capable of rising to this historical moment.

So yeah I remain pretty skeptical. I think the best outcome we can hope for is a four year pump on the brakes before we go right back to what's happening now.

  • i know some of you here wanna try it so I'll just say that the cheapest and open source way to try ai powered sissy hypno is to use glm at z.ai

  • Maybe this is regional, but I feel like I've always heard some variation of "the Holocaust was when the Nazis killed 11 million people, 6 million of whom were Jews" as the standard definition throughout my life, making it specific to the industrialized mass murder but not specific to the Jewish victims.

  • Today, when I really needed a loopback cable, I looked down and found four of them sitting on the floor of the server room I was working in, and didn't have to make my own.

  • all victims of the Second World War

People generally separate the Holocaust from "all victims" of the second World War already, but it shows how cowardly these people are that they don't mention the fact that when people say "Holocaust" they generally mean "the millions of civilians mass murdered with industrial processes within the borders of Nazi-controlled territory", which includes many millions of people who were not Jews. Instead they try to skip over these Holocaust victims and jump straight to everyone who died in the war, a definition that nobody is using.

    compare it to contemporary events

Oh so I guess "never again" means "this will never happen again, don't worry about it, don't think about it". Eat my ass.

  • Sorry if this wasn't clear, but i was being facetious, obviously there was no material reason why West Germany or NATO needed a bunch of allegedly former Nazis staffing the bureaucracy, i think the more immediately causal factor was just political apathy among the western powers for keeping all of the middle managers in prison compared to the east, and when they got out they went back to what they were doing before, managing in the middle and climbing the social ladder, the exception being a few Nazis with very specific skills or knowledge like Von Braun and Heusinger.

  • I think mashed potatoes have a lot of potential as the omnifood of the future. Like how a lot of cyberpunk settings have "nutrient paste" or whatever. Instead of making it into depressing slop, you've got to figure out how to market it to people as exciting slop, and then you've got your golden ticket.

My idea is this: a coke freestyle machine for mashed spuds. Goop out potatos onto your plate in any amount, shape, consistency, etc. Want soup? Turn up the water. Add flavor shots directly into the slop as you squirt it, heat it to order with a hot nozzle, put it on a maneuvering arm and 3D print your meal into any arbitrary shape. Combine this with cutting edge developments in laser cooking and artificial intelligence and you'll be able to emulate any texture for any foodstuff visually, olfactorily, and gustatorily.

With some research I believe we can make potatoes take on any arbitrary taste and smell, and print and process them into any texture. Potatoes can already be used as a sole source of calories when combined with certain vitamins as seen in the documentary The Martian, meaning our potential future market is every meal eaten by every human being every day on planet Earth and Beyond. Seeking investment in my new startup 3DPOTATO $1billion or more serious offers only.

  • I liked Rednote better than TikTok while I used it. I liked actually being able to browse videos instead of being forced to infinity scroll. But I dropped off of both well before the ownership changes.

  • In concept: yes we should absolutely do them. It should be the remit of currently-existing society to seek justice, and on the stage of nation states one state committing injustice against the world cannot be resolved except by ad hoc systems like these enforced by the winners of an armed conflict. Also it's important to get all of the middle management guys in an act of genocide to make it clear to future generations that "I was just following orders" is no excuse.

In practice: it has mostly been a method by which the powerful countries consolidate their control over the rest of the world and launder their reputation. They say to us: "look at this long list of African and Middle Eastern warlords and all of the atrocities they committed with child soldiers and suicide bombers" while never prosecuting a single westerner for the atrocities they committed with spreadsheets and aerial drones. Milošević gets a trial for his role in the Yugoslav Wars, but nobody was held responsible for the sanctions against Iraq in the 90s which killed an estimated 500,000 children.

Perhaps someday we'll see a successor/evolution to the UN that actually gives some kind of proportional power to all member countries, instead of being either a rubber stamp or a powerless observer to what the Security Council was going to do anyway, and we'll be able to establish meaningful international law. Until then, we're stuck with the version that was created by and for the bourgeois dictatorship.

  • There's a reason why everyone who wasn't hanged during the trials ended up getting out of prison in just a couple of years. Nato and West Germany needed buerocrats, and what's a couple genocides between friends?

  • from an article about it

The rights for Melania cost Amazon MGM Studios $US40 million ($57 million), an extraordinarily high sum for a documentary, and the company has spent an equally striking $US35 million ($50 million) on marketing for the movie.

This is basically a bribe, right? We can all agree that this is a bribe?

  • love to show up to a work order, spend less than five minutes doing something, and then spend two hours on the phone with support waiting for the device to update on the back end.

Not sarcastic! I really love it! But I'm gonna start bringing my jailbroken Switch in my toolbag.

edit: okay now I gotta poop but how do I do that while staying on the line without them figuring me out?
