    I recall flash, and how they absolutely controlled it. I loved flash as a young programmer too.

    But in retrospect, forcing users to go through adobe to use something, with no alternatives? What a nightmare for a Open Internet.

  • My first car did this rattle thing when you drove it past 15 miles. The windows would shake. Sometimes, the lock would stick and I had to "shake" the door to exit. One time, I turned the car on with the wrong key. The brakes were loose, where I had to slam on it to get it to stop. The backseat chairs were filled with stains. There were multiple dents on the side - I lived in a bad neighborhood so random dings all the time from other drivers.

    When I finally upgraded, I really felt like I had to pay THEM to take it. So when they made me an offer like $400, I said yes immediately. It was their problem now.

  • I used to say I wanted to test an idea, open up a terminal, run some basic commands like ls and grep. Then ask them to do a restart so none of my tests would "cause a conflict".

    I love wine, but it is a depressant, and without a more normal amount of food to help blunt the effects of alcohol, I think I was experiencing a little bit of that “sad drunk girl crying in the bathroom” syndrome many of us observed (or experienced, no judgment!) in college.

    1. Wikipedia CEO literally said that's what he wants. He wants people to debate. He's done interviews where he doesn't want a single person to be the source of truth. The chaos is what brings consensus.
    2. You have to be stupid if you don't think companies don't pay people for this. It's really not difficult to hire a "Reputation Management" team to sprinkle positive information or at least control it. Im in team meetings about it, where we have staff members who moderate major social groups and lie about endorsements.

    Ive been paying for Workflowy and honestly, I've reached my limit of cost vs value.

    I needed a way to do more than just bullets, like Evernote without the bloat, or OneNote/Notes without the megacorp, something I can export and read 100 years from now.

    I was surprised how often I use it, and slowly weening off of Workflowy.

    Neighbor's car got broken into. Called the cops and for some reason, THREE cops went door to door demanding home owners hand over video of their door cams?

    I went to yell at my neighbor who apologized like crazy, saying he just asked them to file a report, not play Bad Boys action-hero.
