  • I like going through all the posts like these so I can tag people who whine about how men have it so hard or whatever incel nonsense they spout to derail. Have to know who isn’t worth interacting with in certain ways. I always end up with at least 5 new users tagged (across a spectrum of descriptors from mild to extreme). They just.. there are so many of them.. everywhere..

    Edit: Awwwww sensitive dudes downvoting the fact that I’m keeping an eye on who is a shitheel for my own information. So cute, keep it up! Just don’t be a shitheel and you won’t get a tag and it won’t even matter. EZPZ.

  • Any time I get even remotely bored while needing to focus on the boring thing, I start falling asleep. I can’t help it, my brain just goes into power saving mode when it’s being forced into something completely unstimulating. I desperately wish I could harness this power, but even books about statistics or the history of the concept of zero are too interesting and will keep me up and engaged. It has to be genuine spontaneous boredom. Though the “sleep with me” podcast sometimes comes close because I can’t follow what he’s saying for more then a sentence or two at a time due to his speech patterns.

    I got in trouble for falling asleep in class so frequently they made me stand in the back of the room to stay awake.

    So that’s how I learned I could fall asleep standing up.. same exact nodding off behavior as while sitting.

  • Turbinado sugar. It’s considerably more expensive than processed white sugar, but it’s nice in coffee and when used in certain cheesecake crusts (it doesn’t dissolve and leaves a sweet crunch).

    I’m going to grow my own sugar beets this year and try making my own. I know it won’t be the same but as long as I end up with something “close enough”, I’ll be happy.

  • I’d have to go with the money because I can’t see myself remaining blissfully unaware for very long. I’d like to, certainly, but it would require a level of isolation or willful ignoring of things to sustain. Or be literally incapable of noticing things happening around you. And I just don’t see any of that as a long term option without some sort of brain damage.

    But I could use my wealth to create things, ostensibly for myself, that benefit other people. Perhaps buy land and make educational farms for the surrounding communities, complete with paid educators leading gardening and cooking classes. Perhaps build and maintain libraries of various sorts or museums or parks for the public to use freely. That’s not giving it away or donating it, because I’d still own all of it, nor is it actively spent to fix the system (unless you count a lack of third spaces as part of the system, which it is technically) but it is using it for social good, which is something I want to do which means I’d be spending it on myself, technically.

    Acktachully, your entire digestive system is lined with taste buds! They aren’t hooked into your normal sensory awareness, so you don’t taste your own digestive juices the way you taste your mouth, but they are used for sensing things like spoiled food and spice! Those receptors can trigger ejection of material if it’s bad enough (diarrhea/vomiting, depending where in the tract it sensed bad stuff). That’s why sometimes after something very spicy, your guts burn.

  • I’m in your boat. I don’t even change my clocks for DST anymore. It doesn’t really matter beyond a ballpark what time it is most of the time (and keeping to standard time means my animals’ schedules don’t get messed up every 6 months). If there’s an appointment or something that I need an actual time for, I have my phone with tons of alarm options so it’s fine.

    I haven’t set my stove clock in ages, tho I get why it has one since I can program it to start at a certain time, but beyond that appliances shouldn’t even have always-on displays. What’s the purpose other than wasting electricity?

  • I did something sort of similar except I only took pills once a day when I got it.

    I got one of those 4x daily whole month pill case sets, because I’m very very bad at remembering to refill the damned things weekly, and want to do a ton all at once whenever my pills come in. It had an extra without a date on it to fill out the grid (32 total), so that one is used for travel, and was good for 4 days.

    Now I’m taking pills twice a day so I use the first two weeks’ cases for morning and the second two weeks for evening and that’s room for 56 days, perfect time to renew the 90-day prescriptions. My travel case is now packed for 2 days, but I can just as easily grab the two extra cases to get 4

    But if I ever end up needing to expand to more doses a day, and I’m not getting younger so that’s likely at some point, it’s still big enough for a month. Pre-planning, yeah!
