  • The DMZ for the ISPs router forward to the second router, then everything that hits your outside IP will be forwarded to router 2. Then on Router 2 you open the ports for your service and forward to the internal machine. That should all work fine.

  • Its quite complicated to setup as well, just went through the instructions and its a long way from just add to docker and run unfortunately. Would be nice to be able to just get a runner in the same or different docker and it just works easily without a lot of manual setup in Linux of directories and users and pipes etc.

  • I did the same move from contabo to Netcup. Contabo I had all sorts of weird bandwidth limiting problems that I couldn't explain and which the continued to deny they were throttling. Netcup worked perfectly.

  • So many of the GPUs have been crippled for the purposes of gaming and there is zero incentive for Nvidia to produce drivers for those cards to do anything else. Alas they will just end up in landfill.

  • One of the issues here is that being a Chinese paper in any field is still the most correlated with the paper being faked in some way. So while china is producing a lot of science and good science its also the world leader in garbage fake science too and it needs to get a handle on the problem.

  • I suspect it's just corruption. As we have seen government works by giving their friends the work at crazy markups with no requirement anything be delivered. The end result is lots of people getting rich off government contracts and low quality infrastructure at best.

  • The problem is the information asymmetry, there is always another person for a fraudulent company to exploit due to a dysfunctionally expensive court system. Its why we need market level regulations and public institutions that recover peoples money and fine the organisations for their breaches. This sort of thing works a lot better in the EU than in the US due to the sales laws, the ability to return within 2 weeks, default warranty on goods out to 12 months and expectations of goods to be as advertised forced onto the retailers. They work, they need more enforcement from regulatory bodies but retailers do follow them for the most part and quickly change tune when you go to take legal action when they don't because courts know these laws inside and out.

  • When fake news as a concept appeared a bit over a decade ago it was all about the traditional media and the lies and narratives they formed in their articles. That same media tried to spin it as about the satire sites like newstrump and most recently their entire spin has been about social media being the cause. I think social media has caught more because its clear to see that some users are spreading a lot of misinformation and you can see others falling into the trap but really what legitimises it all is what the media does and does not platform.

  • The level of production of CO2 is so vast that planting trees is not going to do anything meaningful. We need to sharply and rapidly stop producing CO2 immediately and work on viable scalable CO2 removal and storage methods with urgency.

  • The UK wastes most of its graduate talent, much of it ends up in jobs other than what the degree is directly in. Despite quite a lot of great Computer Science and Engineering universities most of the reasonable paid jobs have historically been in finance. As inequality gets worse and worse the Uk is becoming a county of serfs and lords once again with a poor populace and very rich owners. Its what people keep voting for so its what they want but it confuses me everytime people vote to be lorded over.

  • The problem is we have done nothing about making businesses responsible for the mess they create, from CO2 to pollution. The public always ends up with the bill while private owners walk away rich. We have been doing it this way now for so long that we are genuinely going to destroy our habitat with climate change and no one is going to stop it happening.

  • Mine are only 25k hours or so, around 3 years. My prior set of disks had a single failure at 6 years but I replaced them all and went to bigger capacity. There is also the power saving aspect of going down to 2 drives as well, it definitely saves some power not spinning 4 extra drives all the time.

  • There is another big advance on the way soon called KPAP which changes the algorithm quite significantly and will allow quite a bit less pressure most of the time and should improve the way the therapy works. All the big manufacturers are involved in machines for it and should fix a lot of the issues APAP introduced.

  • I sub to channels and use Youtubes recommendations and new for you to find additional channels etc but I don't watch them I use Metube and a browser plugin and download the videos to a directory. I don't get all the privacy but I also am not giving them much watch data and I can avoid the ads.

  • Food is the big one that clearly has to change, its not possible to reduce the CO2 impact of meat and that will have to change. Its also going to be required to change the gas boiler for a heat pump or electrical heating, cars replaced by Electrical Vehicles and to stop using airplanes. The electrical side which is making progress is only about a third of the CO2 production and all the other producers also need addressing.

What a lot of personal CO2 calculators currently do is conflate primary CO2 production (your burnt the fuel in your device) and secondary (you bought from a company and they emitted) but things like meat and airplanes we know there isn't a technical solution to reducing CO2 so even though they are sort of secondary uses we still have to count their impact and change out behaviour if we want a habitat humans. The same is not true for transit miles and other goods which often get included but which could largely be made with electricity given the transition that must occur, which is a cost that will fall onto business.

  • The war on the disabled that Labour is committed to will bring further shame to a country already getting called out for crimes against humanity against disabled people in the UK. Labour seems to be worse than the Conservatives in its treatment of the most vulnerable in our society.

  • The elites have been doing very well since 2010. They froze wage increases and broke the long standing history of them raising with inflation and pocketed an enormous amount of extra profit as a result. Most don't benefit from GDP growth now, they just get poorer due to inflation further eroding their stagnate wages. GDP hasn't been a measure that matters to the average person in 14 years.

  • Microsoft remains convinced we want clippy everywhere regardless of how many times we have rejected these solutions!
