  • Good points. I've been finding my smaller communities and they're far more engaging. Local means local news, in some cases, where those come into play. Like you described, I started on mastodon and lemmy and landing on sfba.social and piefed.social as a result. Thank you very much for taking the time to write all this out.

My feeling with piefed is we can play around with this stuff here till we get something better we like before welcoming potential windfall of dipshits posting. I think you have got the right spirit with what's listed in the sidebar and you're obviously open to input.

  • Oh, no way would I block it. I'm not seeing other crazy stuff there. My first lemmy account is there and yeah, it has so much worth following. I honestly enjoy the fun neon themes and the way you can expand text and a few other things about the interface too much to stop playing around over there too.

    I kind of think that's sort of the issue, that some of these other instances just aren't getting much traffic and that piefed, in contrast, seems to be growing at a more robust pace.

    I've been checking out other instances by joining and following new local posts. sopuli and shitjustworks are great but, if you sort by new, sometimes very little happens for days even. It just seems like a better investment of effort to set up camp here.

  • Excellent, thank you so much for taking the time to write this up. I'm getting people giving me a hard time here so I really appreciate it. One thing that's hard to discern as a new person is the various personalities of so many instances and communities but thoughtful descriptions like this really shed light on way too many things I am struggling to wrap my head around.

    I guess most folks don't mind posting to remote communities and I don't really want to be starting another one on my own so these are all great points I'm taking in.

  • That's the guy. One of my posts was discussed in the previous post mentioned. You'll notice jordan has not been removed at all. He's the one who just deleted my post.

    I like @sh.itjust.works, will continue to participate there, and have an account there but I thought I'd post the question as maybe folks here are experiencing similar issues and maybe we could benefit from starting our own community. As I spitball here, I am realizing it has to be more than just generically politics. There needs to be a reason for yet another community. Just thinking out loud really.

  • Unfortunately, it's the largest political community in the lemmyverse. I had read a blurb somewhere about questionable moderation on the instance, which is possibly too big for its own good but yeah, I'm with you, starting to figure out some are terrible.
