  • garbage disposal soup

We called this "Moscow Soup" at the last couple kitchens I worked in.

Us: Uh, Chef, that's a lot of different ingredients and leftovers you're throwing in that soup pot...

Chef: I'm making Moscow Soup! You know how to make Moscow Soup? It's easy: whatever you've got on hand, goes in the pot!

  • Fun fact: ever had soup at a restaurant, and then made it at home but it didn't taste quite the same or as good? There's two main reasons:

    1. If it's a restaurant that actually makes their own soups (versus them being shipped in in a bag to be reheated), they're very likely using leftovers to make your soup. So unless you're using the exact same ingredients as the restaurant, it's not going to taste the same.
    2. The bigger reason being that they likely made the soup you're eating at least the day before it's served to you. This gives the ingredients of the soup time to marry, this is that "blend together" they're talking about. This takes time, regardless of what you're cooking, but it gives the ingredients the necessary time overnight to just... Become a better soup.

The leftovers they use have likely been marrying their flavors for a day or two before they're put into the soup, so all of that blended flavor deliciousness is going to blend even more in the soup.

  • They can't vote for progressives if none are fielded by either party. That was the big draw of Trump: he's evil, but he's popular among his base, and he showed them he'll break all the rules to get things done during his first presidency. People see change with Trump. Not good change, at least, anyone who doesn't blindly support him views it as bad change.

But it's change. The DNC handicapped their only true progressive in 2016 and 2020 to shove corporate, centrist candidates down our throat to maintain the status quo. After 8+ years of nothing fundamentally changing for the average person and the DNC just re-running the 2016 playbook... People stayed home. They didn't see change in Harris' campaign, they saw "four more years of getting fucked over, but not Trump."

People can't vote for a progressive that doesn't exist. It has to come from the DNC first, and based on all of their excuses as to why it's everyone but themselves who are wrong since the election... I don't see it happening.

  • Oh shit or get off the pot, ffs.

  • So... Explain to me how continuing to support the genocide of 3 million West Bank Palestinian lives is caring about the lives of 3 million West Bank Palestinians? And remind me... What support were the Dems showing when, the day after the election, two congressional Democrats came out and said the DNC was too woke on trans issues.

So... Explain to me how the DNC immediately scapegoating the trans community after their abysmal loss due to their own failed campaign... Is showing that they care about American trans lives? Where in her, or any Democrats campaign, was their platform for enshrining LGBTQ+ equality into law? Huh, funnily enough, drag, none of them had one.

And then... Explain to me how the DNC and Biden refusing to let Ukraine use long-range American weapons inside of Russian territory for well over two years is showing care and concern for Ukrainian people? Or, why does Ukraine, who are fighting off a foreign invader, why do they have stipulations on how they can use American weapons, but Israel can just level hospital after hospital in Gaza and that's completely morally justified? At least Ukraine aims for strategic resource infrastructure and not apartment blocks and schools like Israel (who still is receiving Biden, and then de facto because she doesn't do anything against it, Harris, unconditional support from the Biden admin).

Lives you are so apathetic about, you can't even see them as different from any other statistic.

So you're completely fine with the 43,000 Palestinian civilians who have been killed at the hands of Biden and Harris administration, those are just a statistic that you're completely fine with because... They're worth losing because statistically there are more lives to save in your own country.

Wow, I had to look it up, but you're right drag... Someone choosing not to support a genocide is completely apathetic, but you, the one willing to trade Palestinian lives for American trans lives, you're the most empathetic person I've ever met. Literally the definition of empathy right here, folks!!! The embodiment of the fucking Buddha right here, kill as many Palestinians as needed, they're just collateral compared to Americans trans lives.

Again, the same lives the DNC threw under the bus the day after the election.

Good to see you're continuing to double down on your absurdity, drag, still can't find anyone to point the finger at besides non-voters? How many letters and phone calls have you made to your Democratic elected officials demanding they take more action against your morally just causes? I imagine none, since you seem more concerned with alienating and disenfranchising non-voters than you are actually fixing liberalism and the DNC as a whole.

  • You're wasting your breath, drag is Lemmy's morally enlightened philosopher who somehow thinks non-voters are to blame for not choosing to support a genocide, but the DNC is completely blameless in their unconditional support of a fascist committing a genocide because Trump would commit it worse.

Drag'll likely respond and start insulting your intelligence, will probably call you a nazi fascist who wants drag and all of drag's friends dead, and then try to explain why not supporting genocide is significantly worse than supporting it.

All while acting like drag's the ooooooooonly one who understands how the world works, how morality works, how individual understandings of the world may vary from person to person to culture.

And if you write more than 4 sentences, drag will complain that you're long-winded and taking too many words to "be wrong." And that you're writing as much as you are because you "fail to understand what drag is saying."

In other words, drag let drag's fleeting popularity due to a post regarding drag's preferred pronouns give drag the impression that drag is morally and intellectually superior to those around drag.

Aka, drag is a joke, don't waste your breath arguing with Lemmy's most enlightened fascism supporting liberal cOmMuNiSt. 🙄

  • But he did his best, and that's all that matters at the end of the day. 🙄 God was I livid when he fucking said that.

  • I'm trans, and that's what bothers me the most about those two congressional Democrats coming out against trans athletes in sports. Parroting the "biological boys in girl's sports" line the right has been using for years now.

They were so comfortable saying it, that's what pisses me off the most. It shows me it's not ingrained in the party's platform, and we were just a token group to support when they thought we brought in enough votes. So they'd rather scapegoat us and try to court a minority of moderate Republicans that won't vote for them anyway.

It showed me we, trans people, don't matter to the DNC. Maybe we matter to the electorate of the DNC, but we don't matter to the DNC.

  • Oh 100%.

  • I agree wholeheartedly, believe me.

I have a lot of socially unpopular opinions regarding how technology has and is progressing, and how dependent we're becoming on all of it.

  • Yep, so why don't the Dems do the same things, but to actually benefit the average person?

I understand people are going to say, "Well, we have to respect decorum and the rule of law," but... How's that going for us? The GOP doesn't care, and we keep pretending they'll find the line they won't cross to accomplish their evil agenda...

So why can't the Dems break the rules to actually help the American people and show them they're willing to get things done? This isn't a "I gotcha" moment or praising the GOP, I just don't understand it beyond "they're the same party, one just pretends to care."

  • and just calling them dumb and discarding them isn’t a winning strategy.

But that seems to be the SOP for Lemmy users, any criticism of the DNC, Harris, or Biden is met with "bUt TrUmP fAsCiSm," or some variation of you being a racist or fascist or whatever.

AOC sat down with her voters and asked them why they voted for her and Trump, and they gave her their honest answers.

And y'all (not you, the people you're responding to and the majority of Lemmy) immediately insult them, their intelligence, and their understanding of the world because y'all know better then them.

There were plenty of articles showing despite a good economy, Americans felt more strapped for cash and felt like they were doing worse than four years ago. That's their lived reality, and the DNC just kept doubling down on "economy good, soft landing," and then threw out the $15/hr minimum wage from a decade ago as if it would mean anything to most Americans (my state already has a minimum wage of just under $16/hr, and it's $8/hr short of what our own university said someone would need to afford a one bedroom apartment). So no working class person would have benefitted from that in my state, but the DNC and liberals act like we should be gobbling their nuts because they were so progressive for even briefly mentioning it.

I said right after the election (and was repeatedly attacked and downvoted for it) that the American people want change. And if it's not going to be progress, they'll roll the dice on regress. But something has to change, and for better or worse, Trump promises that while the DNC can barely be bothered to maintain the status quo.

  • I think it was more of a long way to say "manual windows and door handles have worked since cars were invented, why are we reinventing the wheel and introducing new fail points on something like a door handle by making it electric?"

  • We were taught about it, but most Americans don't view westward expansion with the same... Reverence? Notoriety?

Like, I remember learning about it across multiple grades, but... Oregon City being the final destination, that's not something I would probably remember a year or two later, nevermind a decade or more.

  • I believe we are still issuing Purple Hearts from that 500,000 surplus to our troops.

It's also interesting to note that we're basically lucky the Japanese surrendered after the second bomb. We didn't have any more ready to go.

Personally, I'm of the mind that we did save both American and Japanese lives by dropping the bombs versus invading the Japanese mainland. People forget how fiercely loyal the WWII-era Japanese soldier was to their cause. They had to play messages from the emperor to get the military to surrender, otherwise they just believed it was propaganda, and the Japanese propaganda of the day told them the American soldiers were coming to rape and kill every last one of them.

One of the proposed weapons for an assault on the main Japanese islands was a bat-incendiary bomb. The bomb would be filled with bats that were strapped with time-delay incendiary bombs. The bomb would land and break apart, and the bats would scatter and hide amongst the houses in attics and what not. Eventually the bombs would detonate, and whatever Japanese town/city would be engulfed in flames city-wide.

  • Three Mile Island, and they want to do it to power their AI development. Not move their current servers and infrastructure to the nuclear power grid.

And the owner of Three Mile Island, who's working with Microsoft, is trying to get the fed to give him the money needed to get the plant running again. Taxpayer money for Microsoft's AI project that they'll reap all the reward from.

  • The DNC during their campaign to save democracy refused to compromise with their base on genocide.

    To reiterate, genocide.

And after they lost, they threw trans people and the left under the bus.

So what makes you all think they're going to change their stance on anything now? They're already screaming that the DNC was too far left during this campaign, this campaign, where they unapologetically and unconditionally showed support to a fascist and his genocide.

They had Republican after Republican parade across their convention stage, but had zero Palestinian Democrats come speak despite requests from the Uncommitted Protest movement.

What's that thing all of Lemmy is always saying, "When people show you who they are, believe them?" They're showing you who they are and who they want to be, so believe them. There's no saving the DNC, it's just a slow march to fascism under them versus the speed run with the Republicans.

  • Alexander von Humboldt, the Father of Ecology/Environmentalism, noted the first "theories" of climate change back around 1800. He was a Prussian naturalist who was one of the most famous naturalists of his time (more things like parks, streets, etc, are named after him than anyone else in the world).

He explored a lot of the world, particularly South and Central America. While he was in Venezuela in 1799, he noted,

During Humboldt’s travels through Venezuela in 1799, he noticed that farmers in the Aragua valley were deforesting the region to grow indigo. As a result, the nearby lake was drying up. Later, in a letter to President Thomas Jefferson dated June 1804, he wrote, “The wants and restless activity of large communities of men gradually despoil the face of the Earth.”

If you want to learn more about him, I highly recommend The Invention of Nature by Alexandria Wulf.

  • Two Democratic politicians already threw trans people under the bus, saying the party is too left on trans-issues, and then parroting the "people don't want biological boys in girl's sports" bullshit.

And then that one Dem who ran the campaign ad "I've never pushed for sex changes," or something like that.

I'm trans too, and honestly, I will never be supporting the DNC again after hearing that from two of their congressional members.
