  • The WHOLE POINT is that it was NOT justified in this or any case! Someone broke the law AND all strictly developed regulatory practices! You should be focusing on the individual who committed the offense and tortured animals, not attacking science in Canada, and I'd argue you don't even care about research at all and are just reacting to an emotional headline for clout.

  • This was a particular research group that was flaunting the laws, it's far from the standard. You're embellishing it into some kind of trend when you have no understanding how scientific research is conducted or enforced in this country, it's absolutely not that, and if you want to pearl clutch you should be looking toward Ford's constant attacks on municipalities and environmental standards to get his cut from developer friends, full stop.

  • What we need is auditing and enforcement of our already comprehensive ethical restrictions on scientific research across fields. He's using this one instance of gross negligence and misconduct to attack science in general, rather than do the proper job of enforcing the regulatory apparatus. Why is he doing this? Attention and optics to distract from his massive failures and bad ideas and investments, and also his side dealing which is getting harder and harder to ignore.

  • I definitely agree with you that DnD was legit, it deserved far more attention than it got, and not just for the writing and performances.

    You can call that defensiveness if you like; I think that downplays the intent of pointing out the constant barrage of painfully biased internet whiners regarding anything comic book related at play culturally, but I'd argue there's an objective measure that's unfair in your criticism. In D&W the interpersonal violence is an extension of emotional processing, and an expression of who the characters are, and also why they are uniquely suited to help each other heal in ways their powers can't help with. Basically, violence is all they know and how they both solve all their problems, and being unkillable gives an opportunity to work out other traumas without they typical consequence of ending people who would want to help. But yeah of course there's an element of bias at play for all of us, and flaws in every movie to varying degrees.

  • The reason we hate AI is cause it's not for us. It's developed and controlled by people who want to control us better. It is a tool to benefit capital, and capital always extracts from labour, AI only increases the efficiency of exploitation because that's what it's for. If we had open sourced public AI development geared toward better delivering social services and managing programs to help people as a whole, we would like it more. Also none of this LLM shit is actually AI, that's all branding and marketing manipulation, just a reminder.

  • What you're calling AI is a mass marketing ponzy scheme. LLMs are not even actual AI. Beyond that issue, its development is in the hands of capital exclusively, and it will only exist to serve capital interests which come at the expense of the lower and working classes by necessity given what corporations (which are essentially unregulated in current climates) are designed to do. What you're calling AI will only be used to hurt human lives and worsen living conditions for all of us (before you nitpick, I think enabling the 0.1% and their hoarding pathology hurts them too). I personally believe you're already aware of that and are cynically trolling, and despite that I'm giving you the honest truth and factual reality of this subject because there is nothing good about being a techno-fetishist sociopath who thinks the answer to humanity's problems is to make humanity itself obsolete, even if it's 'cool'. You clearly got the wrong fucking message from Terminator.

    This is why when actual AI emerges I can only hope it'll be in the hands of a public or collective development process and designed with an intent of progression and cooperation in mind.
