  • I saw that on the main page. That was the best line

  • Some of us are normal...

    Well, normal for lemmy standards

  • Just dont send me a giant giraffe. I'd take some gin though, or I could even use some ginger. Im sure you get the gist

  • SCUBA - self-contained oonderwater breathing apparatus

Laser - light ay-mplification by ztimulated emission (good luck pronouncing the e) of radiation

ASAP - Ay-s Soon As Possible

  • Honestly, there isn't hardly anything you couldn't learn on your own. But what higher education provides is structure. It can be very difficult to actually follow through with the education if you do not have scheduled classes, exams you have to study for, deadlines for projects/exams, etc

  • Problematic undercurrents of homophobia aside, the trend paints a troubling picture of a future filled with photorealistic and eerily believable AI slop.

    What a fucking incredible line

  • How should Lemmy handle it if they quote a portion or even the entire message in a child comment? If someone's goal is to not have to worry about shit someone says, and then they are still shown what that person says, does that not defeat the purpose of blocking?

  • :(

They would be annoyed at this comment if they could see it /s

  • why should online be any different?

I know I am taking the wrong message from this, but online is different in basically every way. You cannot block someone in real life. You can try to avoid them, but they can still talk to you. You can put in ear buds, but that doesn't make them not there.

Really, the solution is to spend less time on technology and more time communicating IRL. Even if it is uncomfy

  • Have you heard of the experiment with swimming rats and how much longer they swam when given hope? We need hope to survive.

Though they don't say we will solve it, but that we can solve it if we start now.

  • There's a long response (10 part comments) from Michael on a reddit comment here

I do think the person writing the article was pretty extreme and was selective on information shared, but hopefully it'll at least make Michael stop obssessing over Codesmith. Let people have their own conversations.

  • Of course IANAL, but I don't understand how this isn't a legal case of libel. I guess Michael has been very careful not to word things as fact, just to skirt the line.

  • Lemmy is 1000x more real than reddit, but I have found it to be very susceptible to echo chambers. I agree with a lot of the echos in the chamber, and yet I find a lot of people taking nuance out of discussions or believing falsehoods from headlines alone. It's annoying to me, because many if these topics are extreme enough as is, there's no need to hyperbolize. But there is not a lot in the way of difering opinions (when it comes to big topics)

  • Yes. They just dont even cover most people

  • Part of why that world works the way it does is Vought

You act like we don't have Vought in the real world already. Vought is literally just a parody of Amazon, and not just because it's made by Amazon Prime

  • Those are class 1.111B domains. I actually buy them a little cheaper, but have to do it one year at a time. It's only 6-9 digits though, not any string of digits

  • Cloudflare sells domains at cost

  • You do not have to port forward. In fact, I would suggest against port forwarding. There are other options to access remotely
