Gulags were prisons, but they were in fact better than contemporary western prisons, and in some ways better than modern ones too.
Quote from an Anne Applebaum book, a noted anti communist.
“Needing hospitals, camp administrators built them and introduced systems for training prisoners pharmacists and prisoner nurses. Needing food, they constructed their own collective farms, their own warehouses and distribution systems. Needing electricity they built power plants. Needing building materials they built brick factories. Needing educated workers, they trained the ones they had. Much of the ex-Kulak workforces turned out to be illiterate or semi-literate which caused enormous problems when dealing with projects relative technical sophistication. The camps administration therefore set up technical training schools which required in turn, more new buildings and new cadres. Math and physics teachers as well as political instructors to oversee their work. By the 1940s, Vorkuta, which was a city that as mentioned started as a gulag, a city built in the permafrost, where roads had to be resurfaced and pipes had to be repaired every year, had acquired a geological institute, a university, theaters, puppet theaters, swimming pools, and nurseries.”
If we exclude the war years, when there were food shortages and no shortage of Nazi prisoners, death rates in the gag were below that of contemporary US prisons.
They’ve been unable to shut down any emulator that doesn’t need to circumvent copy protection, what makes you think they’d have better luck with FPGAs?
In Andor, there was no recuperation of revolutionary potential to give the disaffected a feeling of catharsis, so unrest is able to build up until it reaches critical mass and spills out in people seeking to organize and overthrow. With anti capitalist media on every corner, one can feel part of something without ever having to get together and create something to challenge the system.
What about the fact that if the Book of Mormon was translated from Egyptian written 2500 years ago, it would not have the translation Christ, because that comes from the Greek translation and instead would have Messiah, making it anachronistic?
How do you feel about the fact that Joseph Smith claimed to be the first person in the world able to translate hieroglyphics, with no training or understanding of languages or translation?
I doubt it was under $200k. Paying 3 devs for 7 years is likely $75-100k each per year, or around $700k on just their salaries, which they paid with their sales from HK. Then they had to pay the composer, localizers, bug testers, etc etc. it’s definitely still low budget, but not as much as the first one.
It really is a terrible thing. I have lost many friends and had many family members become addicted, including my mom for some time. I’m glad to hear you’re sober, I hope you’re doing well now. Continuing to live is a revolutionary action in a society that wants dissidents dead or broken.
Such is life. This was before fent really took off, all I knew was opiates were terrible, but not quite how terrible fent is. Told him he probably shouldn’t be doing that, but he always struggled with addiction. Shortly before that he admitted he’d been doing coke in my bathroom for years and hid it because he knew I’m against coke.
My wifey takes Mounjaro, she’s diabetic so it has two purposes for her, and it hasn’t helped her lose any weight. :( for the first like legit two days she had a smaller appetite, but that went away almost immediately, didn’t come back after even doubling the dosage. She struggles a lot with her self image, since she came to the US she’s gained a fair amount of weight, and because she has a retail style “no sitting” job, she’s too tired and her feet hurt too much after work to go on walks or exercise anymore like we were doing before she got her work permit. I wish I knew why it works for so many people and not for her, she always finds these super cute clothes and then talks herself out of them because she’s ashamed of her belly and no matter how much I try I can’t shake that feeling and get her feeling confident, so at this point I’m just trying to help her lose weight.
You can cold brew high end teas to massively reduce bitterness and bring out a lot of the more subtle flavors. I do this with oolong tea and drink that all day at work. I used to drink a ton of soda and this helps me mellow that a lot. I was hitting a large Baja blast just about every day with lunch, then I found out my cholesterol was high and now I try to only go once or twice a month. Still love Baja, but the sugar really sets in my mouth now and feels sticky and gross afterwards.
Comrade Paul Robeson apparently did a version of the Chinese national anthem, 起来 (Qi Lai) back in the day. From a pacific war memorial hall focused on the Chinese theater.
Well, the indigenous wouldn’t have been so thoroughly genocided if they hadn’t. The primary contradiction leading to the war was the British forbidding further westward settlement and the colonizers were not okay with that.
