  • Ah yes, the issue of predestination vs. free will in the Bible. There are definitely some that believe in predestination, or a deterministic/pre-determined outcome. Personally I don't think this is an accurate reading.

Some of the answers to the same question posed here - https://christianity.stackexchange.com/a/77861 - I think cover it well. https://reknew.org/2015/08/paul-teaches-free-will-not-determinism-romans-9-part-3/ also touches on why this passage is not suggesting God predestines some for salvation and some for damnation. Again, I think this comes back to the argument that the God of the Bible knows what people's choices will be and acts accordingly.

  • I'd suggest it depends on whether one assumes we have free will or not.

My understanding of the Bible is that humanity has free will and so there are lots of things that happen that technically aren't God's will or plan (e.g. John 3:16 is pretty well known as mentioning God not wanting anyone to perish but for everyone to have eternal life, but then there's also the Great White Throne Judgement in Revelation where there are definitely some who are cast into the Lake of Fire - the second death). There's a good argument to be made as well for the prophetic parts of the Bible not being "God's will" but simply the result of Him being outside time and space and hence knowing what the result of humanity's free will will be.

So no, I don't think the Antichrist is part of God's plan per se; rather, God knows there will be an Antichrist and that's given as a warning so people 1) aren't deceived by him and 2) know that God can handle him (in Revelation it ends badly for the Antichrist).

  • Physio = physiotherapist, myo = myotherapist. Here in Australia they're separate professions, but I understand in the US there's an overlap.

  • Can you describe the pain? For me at least, muscle pain generally seems to be an ache or there's a pulling sensation as well as the pain (indicating muscular tension), whereas if it's nerve pain it can be a burning sensation, really "sharp" pain, or even just "pure" pain.

Also, can you tell us what exercise activities are you trying that cause this pain? Not all exercises work for everyone (e.g. I do not jog or run because I have foot issues and even walking around for a few hours, despite my orthotics, leaves my feet really sore; on the other hand, I enjoy cycling... when I have the time!).

One suggestion I would have is to see a physio or myo if you can afford it and get checked out - see if they can help you identify which muscles are particularly weak and where you tend to carry tension (depending on how well your interoception works, you may not even be aware of it). Addressing those types of issues can help make exercise a lot less painful (particularly if you have muscular tension issues in certain areas, since that makes the surrounding muscles overwork just to compensate).

  • Oh, I definitely agree. We need better privacy and data protection laws here in Australia too. In the meantime, however, I do what I can to minimise my footprint. I'm well aware that other people are going to be the weak link!

  • I remember reading that in Trump's first term.

    It's even more unsettling now.

  • Both mine were strays and are now happily indoor cats with a catio. It just requires an adjustment period.

I also follow all the local legislation (registration, neutering, etc.). So it can be done and may just depend on how adoption agencies in your state/country function.

  • One of mine just screams from the other end of the house and expects me to come to her. She's definitely thinking about me, but in a "Human! Come here and entertain me!" kind of way...

  • This. Trump literally fits the description of an "antichrist" (lowercase; one of a type) and many of the traits of the definite article (the specific Antichrist) described in the Bible.

But then they're not expecting to be the ones deceived by an antichrist.

  • Fortunately not... I'm generally the one responsible for IT maintenance with my parents' as they get older. Disabled OneDrive long ago since they don't use it.

  • Probably right on the money, sadly.

  • Very cute, but cats should be neutered, particularly those outdoors and especially the males. Males can roam a fair distance and often only have a short lifespan in suburbia. This just creates an ongoing problem with strays and ferals.

  • If I hadn't abandoned OneDrive already, this would make me do so.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I completely understand - when my previous passed away 11 years ago, I kept "seeing" her out of the corner of my eye for months. Even now I just think of her as no longer with me.

  • I was already questioning it a decade ago, but the last few years have really made me feel like I'm in the minority...

  • Oh wow, that works far too well! (Fan of both shows)

  • I know how you feel. Over 11 years for my previous cat. Got emotional talking about her this week.

  • I can totally see 12 saying something like this. And since there's already a ST/DW crossover (Assimilation²) featuring the TNG crew and 11, 12 would definitely know about the Star Trek replicators.
