Other me's:@Auster | @Auster1 | @Auster(I have other alts, but if a profile claims to be me, doubt it)

  • Some random traveler:My milk is so far spoiled it has gone solid. But I can't let it go to waste!

    Achievement unlocked Discovered cheese

  • Linux initially, giving way for me to see that the best alternatives to me are generally the ones I control.

And considering geopolitics, where I can see how dangerous a well-positioned spy/saboteur/paid actor can be, my next self host project is some ActivityPub social media, at least as an one-user instance since I don't want to act as a company yet, so I have control of where I'm posting from too.

  • What was the conclusion a commenter made again? Something about the common denominator between all societies is danger sticks and tasty doughs.

  • Some times for praticality, others for testing certain elements, others because there are device-specific builds.

  • From what I understand, that's still problematic for privacy. A bit more containerized, sure, but still having to make calls to Google.

  • Problem of Nova is that even if it works, you can't be sure it is/isn't a Trojan Horse.

  • For "sideloading", I don't have much of a preferred method, going mainly by what I can find that works.

But aside from the aforementioned Itchio and F-Droid, I also use git-based services like Github, game stores and Patreon-like sites if/when they have Android contents, through Aurora Store if the program is on Google Play only and either I paid for ir already or it's free, and some times I even download the apps directly from the Play Store from another device, generating an APK from it with an appropriate tool and moving to my main phone, which uses a vanilla system.

Also I back up everything I can, and test them in both my main phone while in airplane mode, and in a virtual machine running BlissOS 15 (Android ported to the x86 architecture).

  • If you want to go for privacy, specifically through using a "vanilla" system (as close to the base Android as possible, at most with some FOSS apps), you'll lose some stuff, like most banking apps, since those usually require Google Services.

Also though the main app source for Android is Google's Play Store, you can find some useful stuff on places like F-Droid (for utilities from my experience) and Itchio (for games in my experience). There's some more places but they're usually much smaller or not as easy to sort by Android.

I have a bias that favours tinkering systems, so if you'd be curious about something different or if I use some jargon you don't know, please do point out.

  • At worse, make your own "Fuck AI" community, or find some adjacent community in another instance. The fediverse's potential for redundancy is a godsent for when a community is problematic for whatever reason. No need to worry about enduring a given community because its name was already taken and is being run to the ground. =)

But if you must follow the community where you are banned, I second the suggestion of contacting the moderation team.

  • If seen as a solution, it'll lead to disaster. If seen as a tool, then something good could come. But a tool being a tool, it's as good as the person using it. And there's the concern of it causing addiction similar to TikTok to be tackled if it is to be reliable, and not a dependence source.

  • Unfamiliar with Battle.net, but the problem sounds like a case of DRM and the solution sounds like the installer tries to normalize launchers and you are able to leverage it.

  • Adding to that, iirc the user needs to change the EXE on Steam after the install, else Steam will keep trying to open the installer.

  • Going to take a look. Thanks! 🍻

  • Now, been finding some older anime quite entertaining, like The Big O, Zach Bell, Yu Yu Hakusho (up to season 2...), and Pokemon.

  • Checking what pops up on Grayjay's home tab for Crunchyroll (mostly recent episodes) every once in a while, most seem either bland isekai, or bland fantasy. Or Pop Team Epic, which is just a fever dream, nothing added to the time spent watching it.

Of the recent ones that I found good, I can remember only Frieren (which I'm still going through season 1) and With You and the Rain, both slow burners consistent in their pacing, and that despite the considerable potential for drama, only have small touches of it.

  • Does the same happen on browsers?

  • Not a community but suggesting based on your description: If the sample is a recording you have, maybe try first something like Apple's Shazam?

  • Ah, sorry. Brain fart. Meant Spoof Edition. Though in retrospect, T-Edition is pretty good too. And reminds me of the Final Fantasy VII - New Threat, which reworks the game in many small details for it to be more plot-consistent, be it with itself, or with its subfranchise.

  • Thorn between 3: FF6 T-Edition for the "political incorrectness", the fan translation of Slayers for the SNES because it captures well the tone of the series, and the semi-official update for Sonic 3D because it was made by one of the devs decades after the game was released.

  • Did it myself. Thanks to point out. =D
