Hi I'm Aster, I'm an autistic transmasc demiboy. I like technology, art, and science. I'm also into the furry fandom. I mainly prefer he/him and ze/zir pronouns, but they/them is also acceptable. Also I am a femboy.

  • You need to have better OPSEC and you need to get over your hesitation to make and submit Fake IDs to services asking "let's get you ID verified". Online Anonymity was never really a right, you have to work for it, and you have to be paranoid to keep it. This means you need to break laws to keep it. How badly do you want it? If you draw the answer at petty laws then apparently not badly enough.

  • I don't think I'll ever use Arch, it's way too involved. I'll stick with Fedora on my Main system and Bazzite on my Steam Deck.

  • They didn't show their work citing misuse as the reason, which leads me to believe it's fearmongering and that it isn't going to work so well for the people who are actually trying (AKA have good OPSEC).

This is one of those examples of "It's not possible to be private online so don't bother trying" type propaganda posts.

  • The ones doing the identifying will argue that they are right until they are blue in the face because that's how we do things now. By lying harder until the ones you're trying to convince believe you or give up because it's not worth it to keep arguing. I've been accused of being other people or using AI to write, and those people argued or harassed me until I blocked them. I can probably expect more of this going forward.

  • This is a very misleading headline, this isn't really possible with people who use good OPSEC, and yes that means sharing identifiable information on LinkedIn. Also the developers aren't showing their work claiming it will be misused. Which leads me to believe this is a combination of people having really bad OPSEC and also fearmongering.

  • They still don't seem anywhere near as rugged as the tanks that were the IBM thinkpads and Early Lenovo Thinkpads. Which is a shame. The OG thinkpads were some of the best built laptops there were. Still better than some of the other cheap crap that passes for a laptop these days, but still a shell of its former glory.

  • Make sure to be clear that fake IDs are things you can make and use to bypass this. If using fake names on the internet isn't unethical to you all why are Fake IDs as a subject avoided like the plague?

  • I know that well now, when I was a kid it wasn't so clear to me. Many people told me that my desire to play with other boys was because I had a crush on them, which wasn't the reason. I mean I've had crushes on boys but also on girls too (though I didn't dare tell my family that).

  • Forks are great, they can fix and change small stuff, but for bigger things like Manifest or engine level changes it's an uphill battle because those change the developer ecosystem and momentum, and changing those to your liking is possible, but most developers aren't going to take advantage of them.

  • I always loved skirts and thigh highs but I don't feel like a girl, being seen as a girl makes me feel icky. I've always felt like more of a boy (not 100% a boy but definitely 0% girl). It was a bit confusing when I was young because people told me that liking those meant I was a girl. I like girl things but am not a girl.

  • And also so they don't tear up your insides.

  • Guess this person is unfamiliar with seasoning and the fact that bay leaves are used for flavor.

  • There aren't really any others though, every browser these days is made by a company with corporate interests in mind, either their own, or someone paying them.

  • You should link them so more people can find them easily.

  • Because Browsers are corporate-built garbage which are designed with corporate interests in mind, same reason they choose to send good fingerprinting canvas data instead of sending randomized garbage every new session.

  • You all need to talk about Fake IDs way more when this subject is brought up, the silence around that subject is unacceptable. Discord and friends really want us to be silent when it comes to the subject of people making fake IDs or faking facial scans. Because it means people might be discouraged from trying it or never even think of trying it at all.

Being silent will artificially boost compliance and that's horrible for privacy.

  • I do not think this analogy is comparable considering you are advocating for mass surveillance of people, not an increase of security. The existence of lockpicking is not a threat to locks or door locking because it is a complex skill.

The existence of fake IDs is an existential thread to ID verification systems which is why talk of it is artificially avoided or suppressed, because it is not hard for someone with a Printer, Photoshop, or just use AI to fake an ID or picture of "themselves" to pass it. Might be a crime in some places but it isn't anymore difficult. And will be done at much larger scales than lockpicking if people realize and are encouraged to do so.

  • This will also do little to stop criminals or underage users because as much as people have artificially avoided the topic of it, fake IDs are still a thing.

  • They don't know that fake IDs exist, something people have been surprisingly silent about when it comes to the whole ID verification saga.
