  • neo is the ONLY company doing swap stations, and that is how they work.. I also described current, available EVs with available chargers.

  • And how many years do they support a specific release before making you upgrade.

Looks like MySQL standard releases are one year and LTS releases are 5 or up to 8 with extended support.

    So somewhat similar to Microsoft

  • An EV6 on an capable fast charger can do 10% to 80% in 17 min

They need to make the swap faster / higher throughput or charging is still going to make more sense .

    1. Book a swap in the app
    2. arrive in the lineup.
    3. serves one car at a time like an oil change
    4. the station has to constantly be charging the used batteries.

    Or

Install 4-6 high speed chargers in the same spot and clear more cars faster .

Essentially the swap station is only better if you arrive without a lineup. The swap takes 7-10min and is manned. If you are one or two cars deep waiting you are better to have just found a charger

  • All software eventually gets deprecated / unsupported, including free open source projects.

I think the update cycle on MySQL and Mongo is more aggressive than MS SQL.

The only difference is you pay for MS SQL.

  • Lemmy is public, no one is going to want to use it for discussion of those topics.

  • Cost of living has skyrocketed, wages have hardly budged, and people are really, really struggling.

True.. However it does appear to be slowing a bit for both the US and Canada

    https://blog.bham.ac.uk/cityredi/redi-updates-how-does-the-cost-of-living-crisis-compare-internationally/

People’s standards of living are decreasing

Famines are already being massively exacerbated by climate change, you just don’t hear about them because they’re happening in poor countries.

    https://ourworldindata.org/a-history-of-global-living-conditions

There is far less poverty in the world today than in the past.

Everything points to all our previous warnings about climate change being incredibly conservative.

Probably true, but we also appear to be on the edge of a massive move away from fossil fuels to renewables with the cost of solar dropping, grid level battery systems replacing old coal / natural gas peaker plants etc and the move is no longer just about the "environment" these technologies are in some ways superior or cheaper as well which will accelerate adoption

  • Only thing that is worse in my mind is the "media" no longer news and "social media" both are largely negative and both are full of misinformation these days.

Housing costs may also be a negative..

Other than that MOST things seem better, we just can't enjoy anything since the media/social media keeps telling us what we should fear and hate.

  • For years we invested in better microphones and noise canceling to CLEARLY hear the closest / primary speaker and remove all other noise and distractions.

Now introducing, car noise. Get immerses with the kids fighting in the back seat in surround sound..

No important conference call is complete without you providing your weekly update while your dog licks his balls on the way to the vet for everyone to hear.

  • Not factoring in the monthly fee? Cost per Oder ? Tip?

Most restaurants you call ahead and just pickup your order when it is ready. Gas food places almost all have online order apps to do the same.

It is convenient but if you are using these services multiple times a month you are spending WAY more on dining out

  • In general ordering direct and doing pickup is WAY cheaper than any of the delivery options.

  • So use google wallet..

Instead of rebranding / upgrading one product, Google continues to make new products and have awkward migrations between them.

  • Or just use a chromium fork that allows ad block plugins...

  • There wasn't any h265 support until recent nightlies for windows.. so there is that issue. Which is important for watching movies ore even some NVR / Security cameras these days for anything 4K or higher.

  • All of my kids messages are super short or emoji filled, my wife, friends and older contacts all text to text me full paragraphs or sentences.

    Need some examples

  • True.. but you can install content blocker plugins on iOS now from the app store and as far as mobile goes Android offer an alternative.

  • There’s a lot more vendor lock in than there has been in the past. I don’t see there being a major change without legislation

LOL no.. ActiveX on IE was the ultimate lock in, and that is gone now.. Also we have A LOT of chromium based clones that don't have these restrictions.. It will still be a popularity contest.

Firefox however is limited by its in ability / unwillingness to license or implement some DRM features / Codecs which kind of sucks.

  • Internet is dominated by Netscape, then crushed by MS giving its browser away.. Firefox steps in for a while and is great but starts to suck / get slow, google steps in people start to shift to google, everyone is on google... Wonder who steps in next.

  • ELI5 due to my smooth brain with these concepts

Database is a broad term, nearly any computer system that stores structured data like lists of names or transactions has a database of some kind. Dedicated database platforms like MySQL just make it more efficient / faster / easier to query and store data.
