  • Yeah that comes to mind, a tactic in fascism is to project the hate of people onto someone or something, away from the actual origins of oppression.

People are frustrated and don't know where to put it. Of course it's fine to vent, but this post in particular "hates the sinner, not the sin". It even calls AI users a cuck.

  • This level of hate is sort of astonishing and also worrying. Doesn't seem healthy.

  • The solution to the trolley problem is to kill the experimenter. He's the one that keeps strapping people to the tracks. And also to convict the one asking these questions for thought crimes.

The trolley problem is a question designed to make you think ethics is both simple and impossible, that there are no good answers, and that principles are both valid but arbitrary tools to solve complex ethical questions. If you ask me such terrorist thought experiments, off to the gulag with you!

  • No, it's "Reductio ad Absurdum" showing how your argument is fallacious.

  • Tear gas. I guess technically it's a chemical weapon. But it's also used against protesters all around the world, so this makes this sound rather lame.

  • Interesting. So adding regenerative breaking to the trains would actually reduce the heat.

  • Really? Oh so is the USA and Israel a terrorist country too and any organization they support terrorists as well?

  • Out of curiosity, if you woke up tomorrow in the body of the opposite sex, how do you think you would feel or act on this in the long term? Like through magic, or alien science. Like in those 80s body swap movies, just permanent. Can you imagine that?

Personally I think I would just adapt. I'm a straight male and perfectly comfortable and like being a male, but I think I'd just live as a lesbian women then. It would be challenging and weird and people would see me differently, but it would also be intellectually interesting.

I recently realized that this makes me more gender-fluid than most trans people. Basically they might be more bonded to a concept of a specific gender than even the majority of people. And that is why it's hard to imagine what they are going through, and hard to emphasize. If I imagine I'd have grown up as a girl I'd be perfectly comfortable as that too.

I like science fiction and consider myself a transhumanist, someone who believes that we should gain advanced bodies with full control over them, and e.g. change sex or appearance without needing surgery. Like if you could spend a year as a opposite sex without having to suffer and bleed for it, why wouldn't you do it, even just to gain insight.

I don't think you can make any argument saying that a human is sick just for strongly preferring or needing to be one gender. I don't understand this need either, and think what lengths some people to is weird and some results questionable, but I can't say they are wrong. There is an infinite number of ways a human mind can be. Why do you think it's a mental illness?

Also, if you imagine a future where you could turn "flawlessly" into the opposite sex, and change back too, do you still think it would be a mental illness?

  • I think it’s a bit far to call them terrorists,

Did you mean "a bit unfair"? Because I don't see how anybody would be terrorized by this. It's clearly illegal but using terrorism here is very problematic, especially since what the military does to people in the middle easy is actual terrorism but not called that.

Afaik the "anti-Semitism in Labour" was basically a made up smear by the Labour Party themselves to prevent Jeremy Corbyn getting elected. Not sure about other instances though.

  • "Baskets" is an excellent documentary series about becoming a clown (jk)

  • Sure, but that's not really the point. And I do think it's an important point to understand how trumpism and neofascism works.

  • "Change views on climate change" sounds almost quaint now.

  • I believe in these recent times most people in any camp are rather scared. Few say it but things are getting worse globally. The economy, quality of life, social media, climate change, but also in other harder to define ways.

Climate denial, Trump and the Russian sponsored agitprop too has pushed most camps deeper into defensive positions. People have given up arguing logically about things. How liberals see the Ukraine war is kind of the greatest achievements of Trump - this flood of misinformation and cacophony hasn't just affected MAGA, it has affected the liberals and leftists and libtertarians too. There are only "officially sanction politically correct" opinions now, whatever camp you're in. It's radicalization and thought terminating propaganda across the board.

Not sure but maybe this helps understand that your friends are sort of trapped in this global shit throwing machine. They are lied to and misinformed constantly but it makes them feel safer. Only thing you can do is slowly give them alternatives to their sources for news and try to reach them with arguments that resonate emotionally.

  • Basically when I look for new hardware, I always look at specs. And it's so easy to get sucked in by "oh this is a little bit more expensive but has 20% more performance!".

  • Well I do think he is "casually" racist but not serious. Like it's not a guiding ideology. If it's between making a scene or shaking the hand of a colored person's hand he has no problem with that. He doesn't really give a shit. He's a malignant narcissist, which means he is driven by the psychological need to be "the best and most amazing person". Justifying that just because of his whiteness would probably almost be an insult to his unique greatness.

I also think his mind is in a kind of fugue state where he's not fully conscious, like sleepwalking. He's more like an LLM that is constantly throwing things out "to win" and his mind is optimized to do that very well. If you'd institutionalize him, put him on medication to calm him down and then slowly and calmly begin talk therapy you'd probably find he's just a standard narcissist without any special ideology. Possibly Hitler was similarily "out there" in that regard, but they actually and truly believed in their ideology. They also believed in their nation and making it great, which Trump doesn't give a shit about either.

You can define fascism (including racism or sexism) as a "sincere belief in inequality based on identity". He certainly believes in that, just only for himself. In comparison, neoliberals also have a sincere belief in inequality, just based on class / wealth.

  • Evil, Scary China Refuses To Passively Let Us Encircle It: Notes From The Edge Of The Narrative Matrix – Caitlin Johnstone

That's a pretty good article explaining it. The funny thing is that the US media is always framing China as the aggressor. But one look at that map, like with your real eyes, not the crazy eyes, should show you the US is way out there on someone else's doorstep and who the aggressor is. That's just geography.

Personally I don't think China is going to invade Taiwan unless things escalate further. For example, the Russian perspective on the Ukraine is that the US supported the regime change through the NED, helped far right elements overthrow the democratically elected regime and then supported their stance to ban Russian language, oppress Russian speaking populations in Ukraine and supplied them with massive amounts of arms and intelligence. All of this is true historical fact. And in that situation even the chief of NATO Stoltenberg publicly said that Russia launched a "preemptive war" in response to this quasi-NATO membership right on their doorstep. If the US does the same with Taiwan, China might invade. That particular gabit is rather unlikely to succeed in Taiwan though, and Taiwan is far less dangerous to China than a hostile well supplied Ukraine is to Russia (only like 500 miles from Moskow). The smart play for China if that happens is to play rope-a-dope until the US gets tired. Kinda what Iran is doing about the numerous provocations and acts of war against them.

  • Yikes. Is this from the "committee to save endangered ideologies"? Which think tank came up with this lol

  • Interesting debate, and certainly has some truth to it. Because individuals seek personal gain, they fulfill someone else's ideology they don't really care about but it helps them to get promoted or get rich. But Hitler definitely planned the holocaust as a "final solution to the Jewish question" in Mein Kampf.

In that sense Trump is very different from Hitler - he doesn't really believe in anything but being the strong man. He has no ideology. He's not really a racist. But he adopts ideology that enchants and beguile the masses, so it works similar to the functionalist view.

I believe that MAGA functionaries actually look for things that would shock and pain liberals, and then make that real, simply because it would be "fun" for the MAGA crowd and enrage the libs, and keep them constantly in a confused and shocked state. Just to keep it all going.

  • Gravity is just a side effect of the fundamental laziness of all things. Causality moves slower near mass, so it's kind of relaxing to move towards it. That's why everyone does it.

PS: There is actually a SciShow Spacetime video about gravity being an emergent property instead of a fundamental force. And no I didn't get this from ChatGPT, I'm just that dumb when it comes to advanced physics haha.
