  • People do that here. There isn't a population center here where there isn't a massive tent city or cities within it.

    In my opinion, a society where some people live in gluttony while others starve is worse than a nation where all struggle, because a society would divide resources equitably. We're worse because we have more than enough to feed, cloth, and educate everyone, but a few thousand sociopath families want to live like modern Pharoahs, that makes us a lot worse than a nation ethically that simply doesn't have enough food, homes, or educational resources, because impoverished nations don't choose to have a massive underclass as we do.

    Getting ahead in a capitalist economy is more about birth lottery than anything, a few get lucky ingratiating themselves to the sociopathic monsters that own this system that we should be dragging out into the streets and letting homeless encampments, their greatest victims, decide what to do with, but our brand is supposedly upward mobility, and we're far from the top of that list in the world.

  • Money far beyond your material needs is power.

    Power to alter entire governments and manipulate your own regulators, power to control others, the basis of grotesque corporate culture, it is a means, not an end.

    Some use that power to buy news outlets and turn people into their ideological zombies, some use that power to build dynasties aka "foundations" out of vanity, and some use their power to "win" old grudges.

    Bibi has sought power in the form of political office to do the last one. Allowing individuals to hold so much uniltateral power, be it in society warping levels of capital or political office without sufficient checks, is the mistake.

    That's what I have come to call the Paradox of Power. The ones most inclined and driven to seek power at any cost are almost always the last ones that should have it, and almost never have benevolent intent for that power, from a school bully who becomes a cop to a nepo baby who doesn't like regulations on the family business becoming a Senator.

    In his warped mind, Bibi fought for power to win a holy war, and that's what he's been doing. In his mind, he is chosen by God to secure the promised land from Godless animals. Religion sucks, whether one worships at the alter of Yahweh in his case, or Mammon in the capitalist's case.

  • I blame our rigged, unrestrained market capitalist economy. You can't tether at half or more of people's waking hours to competing against each other to have their basic needs met and not expect that to infect the broader culture.

    It stops us from being a society. It encourages us to be a bunch of rugged individuals at one another's throats trying to beat each other over paper.

  • I believe the first paragraph except colonizing space, at least not without hundreds of years of new technology at the human pace of invention.

    We humans cannot even minimally adequately care for one another or this habitat, the one we evolved from, the most accommodating, self-correcting(to a point), resilient habitat that humanity will EVER know by far, and we've been fucking this easy situation up like breathing. Earth isn't even the "enter your name" part of the interstellar civilization test, that would be colonizing our local moon. No, failing the Earth test is basically taking the test to the bathroom assuming it to be toilet paper.

    Everything else in non-multigenerational reach will be completely and totally unforgiving. Even in the best circumstances, one person going stir crazy if we're talking about sending real people can literally get everyone else killed, one major failure everybody dead, one major accident everybody dead.

    Sorry, I know most of us are deluded into believing salvation comes from reckless attempts at ready fire aim growth, but if we don't get this world fully squared away from the consequences of our reckless actions, find homeostasis and successfully meet the needs of the humans here on easy mode Earth, the idea that we can make colonies of hundreds or thousands on our Moon/Titan/Mars is a bad joke.

    We can send 5-20 HIGHLY TRAINED perfect specimens to Mars or Titan to plant a flag and grow potatoes for a few years, and I'm all for that as a human rallying achievement, we really need one of those, but that isn't the same thing as developing a true, sustainable presence on another world. We'll have either long since decimated this habitat or pulled out a miracle of finding equilibrium with it long before we're ready for that.

At shareholder insistence, they sabotage the future for a short term stock boost, knowing infinite growth on a finite world is over. This is terminal stage capitalism, and it's not just gonna be Wendy's, or in the food sector. The snake is eating its own tail as the scam runs out of room.

    Capital markets were sold as seed funding to grow businesses, now they dismantle business ability to provide the product/service they existed for in the first place at any remotely decent quality.
