  • The same people that think energy use is a bad thing are the people that think that if we pass out all the billionaires money, then we can all have way more value. They are teenagers or people who never learned anything beyond what they teach in middle school. They think their gut instinct must be fact, so they spew it over and over. I'm sure you're not one of them.

  • Yeah, some people did, but nearly every discussion on here was full of 95% idiots screaming about how we need to pretend like biden is so incredible because we have to trick the undecided people into living him because trump is going to resurrect Hitler and march everyone to the depths of hell.

  • And you are one of those "every problem on the planet is the fault of someone else other than me so I can do whatever I want with no regard for it's affect on anyone else" people. Stay away from us if you can't be bothered to carry your own weight, you just drag down people who actually give a shit about something other than their own immediate selfish gratification.

  • Good luck, you are talking to people who think that if the billionaires passed out all their money to everyone, then we would all be able to afford way more stuff. They have no idea that more cash doesn't mean way more products appear. Supply and demand is such a simple concept, but to them, it might as well be rocket science.

  • If this is something you feel strongly about, then please stop eating factory farmed meat and animal products if you havent already. It is something you personally can actually do. It helps, and it will genuinely make you feel better. You may not have much power, but using the power you do have to help the team you claim to be on instead of the other team is a massive step forward.

  • There were just too many idiots for too long that were yelling down any discussion of Biden's obvious ineptitude. Any time anyone would bring it up, they would just jam the "BoTh SiDeS" buttons on their keyboards. They completely fell into the trap of trying to crush discussion, and now we are left holding this senile old man as a candidate. It is almost certainly a lost cause at this point. Harris has half the payout of Biden on most sites where you can gamble on the results, and she isn't even running. If we get anything out of this mess, I hope it is that the new generation of democrats coming up can see how toxic and self-sabotaging it is to try and shut down any conversation they dislike. All those people who have been shouting "bOtH sIeDs" so much their keyboards started to bleed should feel like shit right now. Your pathetic attempt to crush discussion hurt you and the rest of us. Discussion = good. Even if it's uncomfortable. Remember it.

  • Yeah, and they should probably not use cars, or plastics, or make spaceships, or airplanes, or smart phones, or beanie babies. They shouldn't farm or hunt more than they need. They shouldn't make medicines either. They should do none of these things if preserving the environment is the number one concern. The issue is that there are billions of years of evolution driving us to explore and conquer, to learn and manipulate our surroundings, to do anything we can to stay alive and keep our lived ones alive. That couple billion years absolutely annihilates any vague notion of preserving the environment. I'm not saying it's a better idea, just that people are restless by design us all curling up into little balls and having minimal impact on the environment simply isn't going to happen unless something massively limits us.

  • The people who get screwed are the ones who cling to the idea that AI is the enemy and refuse to learn to use it. The jobs will be taken by the flexible and adaptive people who use this new incredible tool. This isn't a new idea, this is how it's been as long as people have had any jobs and found any more efficient way to do them. The issue is that some people are more willing to continue to grow and adapt than others. The ones who are not willing to, maybe because they are old, or just have oversized egos, will be left behind while they shout angrily into the wind that progress is evil.

  • Yeah, I can guess that you think that everyone who wants to make comics should either have to draw it themself or hire someone to draw it. Just like how you probably would have thought that anyone who wants a shirt should weave it themself or hire a hand weaver.

People will always create new and better machines to automate away what they don't want to do. Similarly, there will always be people who are upset about this. It's an age-old story. You can accept the times or try to prevent an avalanche with your body, but that snow doesn't care at all about your favorite little patch of land. It's doing its thing regardless.

  • It also makes a way for the poor to be able to afford to get art to make comics and other things when they otherwise would have been unable to hire artists. Generative ai also allows poor people to write code they couldn't before because they couldn't afford the help. It also gives poor people the ability to brainstorm new ideas when they can't afford a team of consultants.

It helps the poor, just like search engines and the internet. There were people back in those days scared of change as well. Gen ai is a huge equalizer or wealth and power. The vast majority of people using Gen Ai are using it for things that they never would have considered being able to hire someone to do anyway.

  • Yeah, don't blame the murderer, blame the person who you think made the murder do the murdering. It wasn't OJs fault, it was the rap music and violent movies!

  • Absolutely. In theory, at least. In practice or in reality is a different matter altogether. Don't let that stop your feelings or hunches, though.

  • I don't know about your specific issue, but I have found that it helps quite a bit to often start new conversations. Also, I have a couple of paragraphs explaining the whole idea of my project that I always paste in at the beginning of each conversation. I've not been doing anything terribly complicated or cutting-edge, but I haven't come across anything yet that Sonnet hasn't been able to figure out, although sometimes it does take me being very clear and wordy about what I'm doing and starting from a fresh slate. I've also found it helps a lot if I specifically tell it to debug with lots of logs. Then I just go back and forth, giving it the outputs and changing code for it.

  • I was mainly doing python with gpt4, but now im working on an android project, so kotlin. Gpt4 wasn't much use for kotlin, especially for questions involving more than a couple files. Sonnet is crushing it though, even when I give it 2k+ LoC. I'd say I've done about 2 months of pre-llm work in the last week, granted I am no professional, just a hobbyist.

  • For programming it is Sonnet 3.5, there is no remotely close 2nd place that I have tried or heard of, and I am always looking. I personally don't really have any interest in measuring them in other ways. But for coding, Sonnet 3.5 is in a distant lead. Abacus.ai is a nice way to try various models for cheap. Really, some sort of agent setup like mixture of agents that uses Claude and got and maybe some others may do better than Claude alone. Matthew Berman shows Mixture of Agents with local models beating gpt4o, so doing it with sonnet3.5 and others of the best closed models would probably be pretty great.
