  • Sorry, I was unclear. Chippers are not the tools I was thinking of that would be cheaper to buy (a low quality version of) than rent. Was thinking more about stuff like torque wrenches and rotary hammers. Chipper rental prices were just one thing I was looking at recently that seemed way out of line with what other people from other regions were paying.

  • Rentals seem extremely expensive in my area. $100/day for a shitty 4" wood chipper, $300/day for 6" chipper. For some tools, it's often about the same price or cheaper to buy a tool from Harbor Freight than to rent.

  • I've been in cells without toilets or water. They're designed for temporary holding (an hour or so), for things like waiting on transportation or intake, for example.

  • These protests are probably more "peaceful" than the protests you have in mind. History books and media leave a lot of stuff out.

    Also, one thing I've noticed during BLM, is the protests usually start off very peaceful, then police come in and escalate things. After getting gassed, pepper sprayed, beaten, and shot with rubber bullets, people don't tend to be as peaceful anymore.

  • Smarttube works well on my android TV. Comes with adblock and sponsorblock enabled. I'd bet my TV is spying on me in some way, so yeah, PC and TV disconnected from the Internet would probably be better.

  • I used adblockers back then too. Else some sites would cause infinite pop-up windows to open (I assume to get pay-per-click revenue). Even plain banners would significantly increase loading times on 56k connections.

  • I've used FreeCAD for hobby 3d printing and plywood CNC projects. It seemed buggy, and the workflow seemed strange, but I've never used anything else, so it's fine, I guess, lol.

  • Server side rendering looks like it could be useful. I imagine SSR could be used for graceful degradation, so what would normally be a single page application could work without Javascript. Though, I've never tried SSR, and nobody seems to care about graceful degradation anymore.

  • The "left" or "progressive" wing is a small part of the people who help them campaign, vote in the primaries, and donate large amounts to them. I assume they think they'd turn off more people/support than they would gain by catering to the left. The DNC establishment (and the money behind them) are the opposition to the left (but they at least share some values, such as bodily autonomy and some domestic human rights, unlike the GOP).

  • Those in poverty usually have more children. Woman having more rights and joining the workforce is probably a major cause; which is probably why there's all this money backing taking away women's rights recently. Another major cause is likely isolation and lack of community in modern life ("it takes a village...").

  • I doubt that. Current conventional food production is highly fossil fuel dependant (everything from fertilizer to processing to transport). Earth's ariable land and top soil is decreasing quickly. Ecosystems are collapsing from the effects of agriculture and climate change. Most "advances" require more inputs and energy, which means more fossil fuel use, further accelerating resource degredation and climate change. I forget the statistic, but humans already control a significant proportion of Earth's biomass.   • Kagi is pretty good, but expensive. I like that listicles are put in their own small section so you can ignore them. You can boost, pin, demote, or block results from certain domains. You can create and quickly switch between domain list presets to search only specific sets of sites. The only thing I don't like is the exerpts below results don't bold what you're looking for like Google does.

And that the attacks against trans people is part of a broader attack from the christofascists to create outgroups and use hate and fear to obtain power (very similar to what the Nazis did with "degenerates" and jews).
