  • I just installed LFS once, which inevitably came with compiling the kernel. Many times, over and over, every time with other configs as some packages required them. For a dual core Dell Laptop from the 2010 it was surprisingly fast, actually. Still not enjoyable or feasible for my normal systems.

  • I upgraded to 5.6.0-1 on the 28th Februar already. Over a month ago. On a server. That's the first time Arch testing has fucked me so hard lol.

  • Well half a second delay is pretty noticeable when you ssh into a machine sitting right next to you. It should be instant. And if it isn't something's off.

  • As all your other measurements are based on the subjective measures of random people, I'd suggest using the amount of digits of pi a senior can remember in the time a new school shooting happens as a base, like a Bit. Then just multiply by a random amount for bigger sizes and prefix the name with random presidents names.

  • Or waiting for heftig to update firefox-nightly because it has been crashing since 125.0a1+20240318

  • Also with Vencord (Which is not in the Mozilla addon store anymore unfortunately, so you'll need to use Tampermonkey or FF Nightly/Dev and compile the extension yourself). Then add an Adblock theme to hide all the premium trash you can get for free with Vencord and voilá, you have yourself a usable, still spying and not E2EE, messenger.

  • For me, many electron apps (especially Discord and Spotify) start to spasm out with this. As in, they open blank windows and can't be focused etc. So using spotify-player in foot and canary.discord.com in FF Nightly is the only option.

  • We have to compensate for the real thing somehow, don't we?

  • As yet another Linux user fuck all of you!

  • And around 70% of titles are replaced by DeArrow for me, and of the other 30% around 80% are probably just too unknown. So in total just 6% are actually not clickbait, and those 6% are basically just dashcam channels with the numbering as title, the largest german channel about Lego-style bricks and media.ccc.de

  • That's the generation that doesn't understand computers at all. FFS.

  • I'd rather read ASM than ... that random crap.

  • Never said that Oracle isn't evil, just pointed out M$ is extra evil

  • At least it isn't confused with a certain Java clone by an evil company or ++ version of itself or not acknowledged at all, because it is just named after a single character, like C for example...

  • I'm gonna name some language "``` head -n1 /dev/random | base64 ``" so it's easy to search

  • If you know that you do. What you probably do not. A proper C/C++ compiler (gcc) will almost always produce better/more optimized ASM than a human ever could.

  • I kinda have an up-to-date fetish, otherwise I wouldn't use Arch testing everywhere, so every time I boot up my PC I instinctively update the system, including firefox, despite that I am already using it.

  • Also means one has to give up the license they bought years ago for Office 2019 and actually pay monthly now.

  • The Federal Investigation Bureau from GTA is real now?
