Bureaucracy travels at the slowest imaginable pace because change is expensive and hard. Changing tech infrastructure is one of the last things done in any business. It also is a big risk to cost. It takes a lot of money to change these things and also a lot of time. And time is money. Add to that, people inherently do not like changing these kind of things once they get comfortable with it. Which is something almost as powerful as the cost argument, they get comfortable with it.
I hope you are right. I'm at the point in my doomerism where I'm begging to be proven wrong. The populace of this country continues to just strive to go lower and lower in expectations.
I disagree wholeheartedly. This shit happening under Trump is the best thing to keep Libs from changing their ideals. Libs will learn nothing from this because they will literally only blame it on big bad orange man. Orange man is the only problem. America isn't bad, only orange man. This is very on the noze. People really do not realize how big and different the US is. There's a lot of differences of people by state and even sections of state. The only "homogeneous" culture it has is the rampant nationalism and leader worship that's been installed by over a century of capitalist propaganda. What I like to call the "sportsball mentality" is the majority of their politics. That being "out team good, their team bad, and no thought beyond that.
If anyone wants to see real, actual "culture" you have to gouch smaller and deeper into things. Even then though, it's very shallow. I mean, the country is what? Not even 300 years old since all 50 states existed? There are like, sourdough bread cultures in Europe that are twice the age of the US. There's tea tree farms in China that are probably more than 5 times that age.

I really like that you used the term escape. Because that's what Vacations are under capitalism. A vacation feels like "I am taking this solely for my own enjoyment."
Vacations under capitalism, especially in the US, feel more like "I am running from my job for a bit so I do not end up killing myself."
The vast majority of "vacations" under capitalism is just running from work for a bit. It's not a true vacation, because you really aren't taking it solely for enjoyment. You are taking it to escape, even if temporarily.
I had my name on a really stupid, yet also super important project at work. It was like a foot ote of some response to a regulator agency. Completely unimportant but because it was part of this response, it was.
So I did EVERYTHING I could to get it closed but this client he have was holding it all up. It was due New Years eve. I was off that week. My only major vacation for the season. I gave my manager all my work and had it to where all the client had to do was sign. Well, Monday, clients thought up some new BS to complain about and short answer is, we didn't get this thing closed till Wednesday at noon. And I had to work on it for a couple hours every day till then.
So my one bit of vacation, I spent helping work for half of it. I was more stressed because of that then if I had JUST worked.
The only people I know that have anything other than "neutral" to "negative" view of this shit are some idiot chud family members who are too stupid to be allowed an opinion on anything. Most people I talk to that aren't actual leftist, either don't care, or are the "thinks we shouldn't be fucking with other countries when we have problems at home" types.
