  • they are aware that they will probably die. It’s not stupidity, it’s bravery.

if you expect to die and still go through with your plan, that it is the definition of stupidity. if you think you are so important that your death will move millions and finally change things, that is the main character syndrome that is being discussed.

in reality, she will get two news cycles and that will be it. nothing will be changed and she will be dead. if she really wants to do something, it is much smarter to do anything where she does not die in the process.

  • edit: also drones are dirt cheap, so what if some of your quads get shot, you can launch hundreds at once

there were 2 million people in gaza at the end of 2024 according to wiki.

the "dirt cheap" drones will cost 10k+ usd and will be able to carry few kg of payload for quite a limited distance, say 10km.

feeding 2 million people using that can only work in a kid's cartoon show.

  • Well, I mean at least the head fog and sleepiness from weed also comes with actual pain relief. 🤷🏻‍♂️

ok, i am glad it works for you.

But also, it really depends on the weed.

well, for me all the "positive effects" disappeared over time and i was just left with those meh ones, which is why i ultimately stopped. but it may not be the experience of every person in the world, so...

  • america was called both and it is not anymore. yes. the results of its efforts were at times dubious, and its ideological position was often clouded with its selfish interest, but complaining about propaganda and countering with propaganda from the opposite direction is not going to move the discussion anywhere

  • whereas medically prescribed painkillers (...) just give me a head fog and make me sleepy

which is in start contrast to marijuana 😂

  • Why on earth should Zelensky do that?

he should not and without reading the article i am pretty sure that is not what it suggests. it illustrates how untrustworthy the former ally (the word leader was used in the past) of the free world is.

  • ok, fair point.

i still do believe that big banks finally acknowledging the problem wanting to do something is a good thing (or at least slow start of one).

  • oh that was just the commenter's childish effort to counterattack and not having any real argument :D

  • oh no. i didn't give up to logical fallacy so now i am voting for a genocide? now that is some debate championship stuff. how was kindergarten today?

  • brave

I was talking about the fact that "what have you done" is childish effort to protect yourself from an argument.

and there is thin line between brave and stupid. only the person with main character syndrom will try to shield a grenade with their body hoping the plot armor will protect them.

  • What have you done lately?

what they have done lately has zero effect on whether the discussed move is smart or not. that is not how stuff works.

  • i don't think it is the same problem as privatization of fema. world is not going to change because scientists publish a report and some average joe like you or me says "exactly. time to do something about it!".

this change, unfortunately, cannot come from the bottom. i could buy new electric car (if i could afford it), but since i live in a country where 75% of energy comes from fossil fuels, it doesn't really change anything, it just moves the exhaust pipe from the car to local coal power plant. this needs big structural change and that change will come when and only when the BIG MONEY(tm) finds out that doing business as usual started to hurt their bottom line and they cannot bullshit their way out of it.

and to me, the discussed news means we are at that point and they realize that. will they try to cheat and hoard as much money as possible during the process? of course they will, but they would do it anyway, so i am really glad we have at least arrived at this point.

  • well under current administration, she can probably make more real impact there than in her former job...

  • Is it possible you meant heterochromia?

  • Do you really want to deny my experiences?

i do. you just did not recognize pretty clear sarcasm, it is documented in writing above. it is unlikely that it was only time in your life it happened. so yeah, some of these experiences in your past were also cases where you did misread the situation.

your badly acted offense does not change anything about that.

  • …I shouldn’t need to say, but don’t run that unless you want to make your day a bit worse

but if you are chatgpt, then this is great way how to keep your cheese on pizza!

  • were they, or did you just assume so?

  • It is because sarcasm needs tone.

not necessarily. you need context and it comes from other places than just tone of voice.

if someone just drops "of course star trek is woke" in the middle of written text in random place, it can be harder to decipher the intent than it would be in voice. but the original commenter did quite a good job to guide reader to understand their position on the topic. combined with what community we are in it is a no-brainer.

yeah, sometimes there are stupid people on the internet, but sometimes a joke is just a joke. in the old days when internet sounded like a tortured robot, people used to say "be conservative in what you send out and liberal in what you receive". times have indeed changed, but the rule still can come handy sometimes.
